You Don’t Need A Wish Book

Remember the “Wish Book”? Although there was a regular department store catalog that was pretty big back in the day, there was also the smaller Wish Book that Christmas gift ideas. I can remember going through that book and I would dog-ear pages that held wishes I really wanted. I never expected to get everything on the pages I turned down, but somewhere in that huge list of wants I was sure to get something!

Oh beloved. That catalog of delights comes to mind as God talks to us about wishes. This year none of us has ever wished for war. We didn’t wish for soaring gas prices or empty shelves in the grocery store. No one would ever wish for disaster or destruction of any kind.

Yet God speaks this morning and reminds us that this world is not our home. And the Bible isn’t a wish book. And our lives aren’t about having a good time, amassing things we want and wishing for everything to be safe, sane and simple.

But God says put your hope in Me. He isn’t a genie in a bottle, but He is the great I Am. He sees the theater of the world and the chaos going on. Chaos always happens when God is left out. So the Lord says to us not to leave Him out. Include Him. In prayer. In life. In decisions. He won’t let you down. You will always receive more than you can imagine if you put Him first. He is King over all the earth. No leader of any nation has absolute control. Yet God does. If you wake up wishing you could go back to the simpler past, know this. You are here for a reason. You’ve been called out of darkness. So whatever darkness you are dealing with – fear, worry, helplessness, and more – Jesus came to overcome all that. And more. This gives you the position of winning the wars of your life. And it gives you the vantage point of seeing God’s will play out throughout the living world. The wish book never held anything like what God is doing in the earth today! Glory!

God loves you and He’s for you. There’s your position beloved. Take out the Bible today and begin to read through to find your hope, peace, joy and purpose. Dog ear everything you need! And know that God will supply it all for you as you live in the Light of His Truth today and always.

Psalm 119:111 I have inherited Your testimonies forever, for they are the joy of my heart.

Psalm 119:143 Trouble and anguish have come upon me, yet Your commandments are my delight.

Psalm 37:3-4 Trust in the LORD and do good; dwell in the land and cultivate faithfulness. Delight yourself in the LORD, and He will give you the desires of your heart.

About Rebekah Beene

In a Women’s meeting in 1983, I went up for prayer and to see if God had “anything for me”. The woman of God who was praying for people spoke over my life. She said these words: “You will write books. You can go to the bank on it. Rivers of living water will flow from your belly…”
