Tuesday at Ten: I WRITE BECAUSE . . . . }

I write because God called me to.

In 1983 I was at a women’s meeting and a precious woman of God was speaking. At the end of the service it was announced that the prayer line was open and if anyone wanted a word from God to come through. I was a fresh baby Christian and I wanted everything God would give me so I went through the line.

When it was my turn she placed her hands on my shoulders and said, “You are going to write books. Rivers of living water will flow from your belly. You can go to the bank on this.”  She said a few more things about the writing and my call. I went home that night and told my husband who said, “That’s nice.” (He really thought it was nice, but we lived in the country on a 20 acre farm with three children under 6)

We put that “word” away and honestly I never thought of it again until God started doing new things in my life – some 30 years later. But the fact is, I had a Word from God and God had a woman of faith who spoke His truths and when the fullness of His plan came, I began to write.

I write because I am compelled to. I don’t think I can stop writing. But this one thing I know. When God quits telling me what to write I’ll be done. Since I know beyond the shadow of a doubt that writing is a gift I am very careful not to give my opinions – they count for nothing. I also know that “nothing is worth losing the anointing of God”.

One last thing God told me: “Choose your platform well. For what your platform is will be what people believe.” So God had me choose love.

Oh beloved, God loves you and He’s for you. If He’s put a dream in your heart or a calling in your mind, go for it! Let Him lead you, let Him teach and change you but most assuredly God’s call is without repentance- He doesn’t change His mind.  If it’s writing, then write!  If it’s speaking or loving or caring or wiping floors or whatever your hands have set to do – do it for the Lord. If you thought He called you but life got you down, run into His loving arms and ask Him for a fresh start!

As for me I write because God called me to and that’s all that matters. I write for an audience of One. I pray that whoever reads His Words of love will be changed and realize how much He loves them and He is for them always.

Colossians 3:23 Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for human masters…

Romans 11:29 for the gifts and the calling of God are irrevocable.

About Rebekah Beene

In a Women’s meeting in 1983, I went up for prayer and to see if God had “anything for me”. The woman of God who was praying for people spoke over my life. She said these words: “You will write books. You can go to the bank on it. Rivers of living water will flow from your belly…”

    Beautiful, Rebekah! God gave that “word” – these words – to you; and once the Plan was in the right time and place – God’s timing and placement – it was ready for you to begin! Continue to follow Him and His word for your life…I stumble a lot with that; but still I TRY to get up and continue.

    Thank you for sharing your journey and your writing with us!
