Reckless

As I drove for lunch a couple of days ago, I encountered a strange scene downtown. First I noticed a man walking in the middle of the street. He was actually wandering back and forth in each lane. He was definitely in the street. And just between me and him was a late model car driven by quite an old man. He was stopping where there weren’t stop signs and stopping to watch the strange walking man. In fact, he stopped in the middle of the block just to watch that man. When he drove he only got up to about 10 miles an hour.

Both people were being reckless. And I felt sorry for both of them – neither were in their right faculties and neither was being safe. Reckless in our little downtown area.

God’s love for us is reckless, the singer croons. It’s true. He loves that man weaving down the middle of the street. He loves the elderly man who was a danger in his big car. He loves you and me. At their worst, we want to both stare and look away at people who seem out of control. But God comes right into the mess, our mess, and takes our hand, hugs us close and asks us to let Him be Lord of our lives. We think God’s love is reckless at any rate – why would He love them? Why would He love me? We’ve seen them and what they can do. We know us and who we really are. Yet God abandons conventional wisdom and goes after the lost sheep, the powerless sheep, the wounded, reckless, useless sheep.

Oh beloved, today is the day. It’s time. You’ve tried being good enough, presentable enough and well behaved enough. Truth is beneath it all you’ve got problems you can’t fix – problems of the heart, the mind and the spirit. You’re weary and unhappy. You’re becoming more unsteady and you wonder where you’re going to find help. That’s okay. Because today is the day you are going to give it all up and let the unbelievable love of God, written on the cross, sealed by the unsealed tomb, come in a clean you up, dress you up and pick you up out of the old life and into the new. No more weaving in and out of His will. No more gawking at your dreams, hiding from your fears and wishing you could figure it all out. You are being set free from being you and taken into the realm of being who Christ has made you – saved, sealed, delivered, set free, born again, at liberty, no longer in captivity, no longer wandering dangerously in life and finally home where your heart should always stay.

God loves you and He’s for you. Doesn’t matter to Him if you’ve served Him faithfully or if you’ve wandered in and out of His will. He accepts you just as you are, He knows all about you, He loves the real you. And His plan is to take you out of reckless living, haphazard hopes, and unsure prayers. He is bringing you into His inner circle to give you a fresh start and a hope beyond all hope. Rejoice that you are full of His wisdom power and love as you live fully abandoned to His overwhelming, never-ending, reckless love!

Romans 5:6 When we were utterly helpless, Christ came at just the right time and died for us sinners – the ungodly.

Isaiah 44:22 I have swept away your sins like a cloud. I have scattered your offenses like the morning mist. Oh, return to me, for I have paid the price to set you free

I Corinthians 1:26-27 Brothers and sisters, think of what you were when you were called. Not many of you were wise by human standards; not many were influential; not many were of noble birth. But God chose the foolish things of the world to shame the wise; God chose the weak things of the world to shame the strong.

Psalm 31:5 Into Your hand I commit my spirit; You have ransomed me, O LORD, God of truth.

Psalm 103:4 Who redeems your life from the pit, Who crowns you with lovingkindness and compassion

Five Minute Friday – SECRET

Untitled 1Five minutes to write on one topic. This is always so enlightening!

SECRET –

The song says it all: “It is no secret what God can do. What He does for others He’ll do for you…”

If it’s not a secret what God can do – and it isn’t because He’s laid it all out in His Word – breathed straight from His heart and into our spirits, then why?

Why do we have a hard time believing it for ourselves?

Oh beloved, God is with you and He is for you. His secrets are your national treasure and your nationality is now Kingdom of God! You aren’t just waiting around to live this life in complete mundane whatever comes. You are a lady in waiting – seeing God’s handiwork, praying to Him conversationally and seeing His handiwork all over your life!  This is a BIG DEAL – and NO SECRET!

He wants you to know that His steadfast love endures forever! His Word is your help and comfort. His Spirit lives inside of you.  You are no longer a slave to sin.  You are purchased with a price – the precious Blood of the Perfect Lamb – Christ.  You are seated in heavenly places. You are rich and not poor. You are the head and not the tail. You are blessed, chosen, forgiven, anointed and appointed!  I could go on and on but five minutes flies by!

God loves you and He’s for you. Net time you feel down and out and unsure of the secrets of God -start rehearsing them! Time will fly, the devil will flee and your heart will soar!  Thank Him this morning for showing you His secrets, being able to comb His Word for your daily needs and being able to walk in the Light of all He has laid out for you!

You Need God’s Bandage

band-aid-cross2Danny showed me two small scars on the front of his upper legs last night. I’ve never noticed them before. He got them from getting caught on one of his buddy’s chain link fence. Although that was over half a century ago, the scars remain. And so does the memory of that event.

We have huge memories, don’t we? And we seem to remember the things most that hurt us the most. Pain is hard to forget. Injury is held onto because we carry scars that others may not see. Just as Danny’s friend’s mom doctored and bandaged the tears in his legs, so too God bandages the holes in our hearts. Our job is to let it all heal – to leave it alone and quit replaying the pain. God promises to heal all wounds and to give us other things to focus on – specifically Him.

Oh beloved, the pain you have received at the hands of another is great. No one expects to have pain and if it’s from those who are family, you feel even worse. No amount of bandaging for the rips to your heart will keep you from bleeding out. Unless… Unless you go to the Lord each time you feel the renewed pain and agony. By taking your injuries of the heart to Him, you are allowing Him to do the healing. To seal the hurts under the Blood of Christ and to forgive- which is the most healing salve of all. To forgive may not mean you totally forget, but it will mean that the pain is no longer your first response upon waking and your last thought as you drift off to sleep.

As God heals, He gives you fresh anointing for the next phase of your life. You’ve been waiting in pain and now God is releasing you to walk out of the darkness and into His Light. You aren’t the sum of old scars or old injuries. You have been set free to be totally healed of the things the enemy would have you stay bound in. You aren’t bound by another’s harsh words or rejection. You are not bound by the fear that more injury could come. Cynical thinking has to go – you aren’t going to try to protect yourself any longer. As you release the pain, you get more healing – more freedom – more anointing – and fresh fire.

God loves you and He’s for you. That’s why you can trust God’s healing virtues. That’s why you can trust your future to Him. And that’s why you can live a life full of faith, forgetting what lies behind and pressing on to the High Calling you have in Christ Jesus. Run to Him this morning and thank Him for healing you and teaching you how to dance in His mercy and grace all the days of your life!

Psalm 147:3 He heals the brokenhearted and binds up their wounds [healing their pain and comforting their sorrow] AMP

Psalm 34:18 The LORD is near to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit.

John 14:27 Peace I leave with you; My peace I give to you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled; do not be afraid.

Jude 1:2 May mercy and peace and love be multiplied to you.

God Speaks In His Native Language

love-3388622_960_720Two years of Spanish in Junior High and you’d think I would be all set to speak somewhat fluently. Not so. No more practicing the language equals remembering little of it. It’s not my native language. If someone speaks Spanish to me I can pick out words here and there, but conversationally I’m not going to be able to hold my own.

God only speaks in His native language. That language is love. We have to learn how to understand that language and how to speak it and receive it in conversation with Him.
Oh beloved, God sees your faith and remembers when you put your trust in Christ for salvation. Many times, though, you’ve seen Him as a dictator who is terrible disappointed in you. You’ve had a hard time seeing Him as the Loving Father He is, especially when you aren’t the perfect child. When you know you’ve failed you’ve waited and expected some punishment or banishment to come your way. After all you don’t deserve His love. You want to be good enough to believe He will bless you, but your mistakes, regrets and fears keep you hiding away from Him. You don’t feel capable of conversing with Him in your distress and grief.

But God wants you to know, rely on and totally believe that He is Love. He isn’t just loving – He is pure Love. He is the personification of Love. His nature and essence is Love. Loving yourself is one of your best assets as a believer. As you learn to love yourself the way God loves you, there will be a new kingdom awakened in your mind. It’s simply taking God at His Word and learning His love language that makes all the difference. You are not the sum of anything you’ve done wrong and you are not under compulsion to be some sort of perfect for God to love you. God wants you to come alive in His love. It makes all the difference. It gives you a sense of peace when you lay your head on the pillow at night. And it gives you a sense of wonder when you awaken each day. Your emotions may try to make you feel less than. But God, through His love, says more than. He is setting you free! Free to release those emotions and teach you how to speak to yourself in love and to Him. This is your finest hour – to know Him and His loving nature. This is your great adventure – to live in the shadow of His love. This is where your life goes from natural to supernatural – to live loved!

God always loves you and He is always for you. Your worst moments are a catalyst to call on His love, to receive it in full and to live it out. Run to Him this morning and ask Him to teach you more about His native language – love. And live in the Light of what love brings to the table – mercy, peace, joy and amazing grace!

I John 4:16 And so we know and rely on the love God has for us. God is love. Whoever lives in love lives in God, and God in them.

Psalm 86:5 O Lord, you are so good, so ready to forgive, so full of unfailing love for all who ask for your help.

Galatians 2:20 I have been crucified with Christ, and I no longer live, but Christ lives in me. The life I live in the body, I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave Himself up for me.

Romans 5:8 But God proves His love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us.

Ephesians 5:2 Live a life filled with love, following the example of Christ. He loved us and offered himself as a sacrifice for us, a pleasing aroma to God.

Imperfect Life And Christ

For Mother’s Day my husband got me just what I wanted- a new fishing rig and a fishing license. My pole and the reel are both red. Even Stella was impressed. “Even the line is red!’ was her exclamation. I was completely set – legal and equipped. Unfortunately, the only thing I caught was a young snapping turtle. Danny worked hard to put me right where the fish were biting, but I never got another opportunity. Not catching a fish would make a fishing trip less than perfect. But all around me everyone I loved who was fishing with me caught at least one fish. That was as much a blessing to me as me catching one. Imperfect fishing trip but a wonderful time just the same.

Mother’s Day weekend was wonderful, but it wasn’t perfect either. Normally I get very stressed out about the day. My hopes and desires collide with things I can do nothing about. This year though, God and I had talked about it and I was determined to let it go and just own the day, however it came about. I didn’t let the lack of catching fish be my focus, nor did I fret about some hopes being deferred. It was wonderful! I enjoyed my hubby, the beautiful weather, being with our youngest daughter and her wonderful family and more of the little things that are worth cherishing.

God taught me a valuable lesson – I can be content with less than perfect because I serve a Perfect God.

Oh beloved, whether Mother’s Day or any other special day was all you ever wanted or nothing you’d wish on your enemy, God is perfect for you. And because He is Perfect for you, the outcome of the days isn’t about whether anything is perfect or not. In fact, life is not perfect. Prayer isn’t just for getting perfect answers and seeing perfect outcomes. Prayer is about talking with the Lord about situations and getting His perspective on them. When you begin to settle your hopes on Him alone – you will find that imperfection is less of a bother. None of us want to face deficiency or limitation, but that’s exactly who we are. Without Christ we can never hope to be perfect, so why do we spend so much time chasing perfection in days, people or conditions?

The Lord wants you to know that He sees beyond your imperfect life. He loves you perfectly and He sets you into His family – the perfect place to live. Forgiven, granted mercy, full of grace and being perfected. He wants to remind you today that life isn’t about having perfection in every area. It’s about being perfect to become the likeness of Christ. You aren’t the sum of your imperfections, nor is your life about them. You are the sum of the love of God, the forgiveness of Christ and the restoration of Holy Spirit. He says you can relax because you don’t have to make things happen or fix anyone or anything or any day. All you have to do is abide, walk in love and be content. This is no light thing – it’s your birthright!

God loves you and He’s for you. That’s enough to loosen your hold on the need for perfection. It’s enough to let God do the work only He can do. And it’s more than enough to allow yourself to be loved, cared for and blessed every single day – no matter the weather, the weakness or the wishes. Rejoice precious one, that you can go to the Father, give Him your desires and live full of joy in the midst of His glory and grace.

2 Corinthians 3:18 And we all, with unveiled face, beholding the glory of the Lord, are being transformed into the same image from one degree of glory to another. For this comes from the Lord who is the Spirit.

Isaiah 41:10 Do not fear, for I am with you; Do not anxiously look about you, for I am your God I will strengthen you, surely I will help you, Surely I will uphold you with My righteous right hand.’

Galatians 3:3 How foolish can you be? After starting your Christian lives in the Spirit, why are you now trying to become perfect by your own human effort?

Romans 8:28 And we know that God causes everything to work together for the good of those who love God and are called according to his purpose for them.
