Peace – a Gift for Mother’s Day

Well I went to honor my mom Friday. It was one of the most beautiful days I’ve ever seen. Of course she wasn’t there, just the headstone for her and my dad as a marker of memory for who they were. One of my daughters was with me along with her kiddos. We walked the place and talked about quite a few people there that we had known, some friends some family. I always miss my mother this time of year.

Oh beloved, Mother’s Day is wonderful and terrible at the same time. While we enjoy celebrating our mothers, everything and every mother isn’t so perfect. I know this because I am an imperfect mother. I even measure myself against my own mother and come up quite short. She was the best. Others of you are not visiting graves, but still with this season of sickness you can’t see her in person and oh how that hurts.

But listen, beloved, God wants to speak to your heart. He wants you to know that He doesn’t measure things the way the world does, nor does He measure them the way we tend to do. He doesn’t have a book of every mistake your mother made, nor every mistake you’ve made as a mother. He has a Book that says fall into His loving arms and accept His grace. He has a book that says His mercies for you are new every morning. His book lists the redemption, the restoration and the reckless love He has for you. Reckless, in that He doesn’t hold a thing against His own. He is mindful that mothers are human. He is mindful that people are fallible. He doesn’t disconnect from you every time you remember mistakes of your own mother or mistakes you made. His love sent His own Son to the cross to be perfection sacrificed for imperfection. How wonderful is that? It gives you breath to arise this morning and give yourself peace. Peace for the life you wanted to have. Peace for the troubles you want to forget. And peace for even the times that you cannot do what you want to do. Oh how wonderful is this life of faith! You are surrounded by His glory and nothing will ever separate you from His love!

God loves you and He’s for you. Today. Right now. Even if you get no card, He has given you the Book of Love to read over yourself. Even if you want to stay in the bed and miss the day, or you miss your mom because she’s gone. Oh listen precious one, rise up this morning and accept the truth – that you are chosen in Christ to live a life of faith and virtue. And then accept His deliverance from self. And live in the Light of His wonderful and amazing mercy and grace!

Romans 5:8 But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.

1 John 4:10 And love consists in this: not that we loved God, but that He loved us and sent His Son as an atoning sacrifice for our sins.

Romans 8:38-39 For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor principalities, neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord.

Matthew 6:12 And forgive us our debts, as we also have forgiven our debtors.

Psalm 57:10 For Your loving devotion reaches to the heavens, Your faithfulness to the clouds.

Psalm 130:3-4 LORD, if You kept a record of our sins, who, O Lord, could ever survive? But You offer forgiveness, that we might learn to fear You.

Psalm 4:6 Many ask, “Who can show us the good?” Shine the light of Your face upon us, O LORD.

Our Present Darkness

As I came into the dark bedroom this morning where the computer/office is now I noticed something in the chair. I reached out to touch it in the dark and it was a group of tiny stuffed animals all arranged just so. One of the grands had been playing in this room and the evidence sat mutely there. I laughed as I switched on the light and discovered which toys they were. Without the light I had no idea what it was.

Oh beloved, God speaks to my heart. Sometimes we just have to reach out in the dark. We aren’t sure what’s ahead or even what this day will hold. But we can be sure that God will show forth His light on our present darkness and reveal truth to us. His desire to speak this truth to us is to give us Light in every situation. We may have to step out but we never go alone. We may feel uncertain but because we have His light, we don’t fear the unknown.

God wants you to know this morning that it’s okay to wonder what will happen next, but it’s not okay to spend all your time fearing what you do not know. This is not a life to fear. It’s a life to embrace. Even if you feel you’ve made too many false moves. Made wrong choices. Had bad things happen. God understands and still He is with you. His grace is enough. For anything and everything. His salvation is enough. To cover all your past. His power is enough. To take you through what you face this day. And He promises to take all your cares on Himself simply because He cares for you. He isn’t daunted by your age, your bills, your problems or your insufficiencies of self. He is the Light – the Only True Light – in this darkened world. You are never truly walking in darkness because you have His light with you but oh you have His light within you!

God loves you and He’s for you. If you are uncertain about where to step this morning ask Him. Take some time this morning to simply sit and ask and listen. He will help you and He will guide you. And He will take your uncertainty and feed your faith. And you can walk freely in the Light wherever you go, knowing Jesus settled it all for you in the Light of His salvation and grace.

John 8:12 Once again, Jesus spoke to the people and said, “I am the light of the world. Whoever follows Me will never walk in the darkness but will have the light of life.”

Colossians 1:13 For He has rescued us from the kingdom of darkness and transferred us into the Kingdom of His dear Son

Psalm 89:15 Blessed are those who have learned to acclaim You, who walk in the light of Your presence, Lord

Psalm 119:105 Your Word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path.

Psalm 18:28 For You light my lamp; The LORD my God illumines my darkness.

It’s All A Little Glitchy Right Now

Working from home has its perks and I’ve been doing it now since mid March. I have an app downloaded that allows the calls to the office to ring on my cell phone. Yesterday was a big day for phone calls. But it was also a big day for glitchy internet at the office. And for some reason not all of the calls would connect right here. I did a lot of calling numbers back here.

Oh beloved, aren’t we thankful that with the Lord there is never a dropped or missed call? Never. Technology is awesome, but we don’t have to rely on anything but calling out to God and He hears every time. We have this Advocate when the connection seems glitchy. He stepped onto the cross and into the grave and secured a perfect connection for our lives.

God wants you to know that He hears every call. You may not think He has heard because you don’t have all the answers. But His answers are never delayed. You may have even said that He is an 11th hour God. But truth is He is a Right On Time God! Delays are inevitable, but in those delays, God is working all things according to His will and for your good. You may worry about the connection but if you have Jesus and He has changed your life, then that secure connection is made by the Blood of the Lamb! Keep asking, keep knocking, keep seeking. That’s your job. Make the calls for your life as needed. And no issue is too small or too great to call on the Lord. This season has seen many delays you haven’t wanted. It’s costing you in many ways, just as it is most Americans. But God knows and He sees, so you can relax and resist the urge to hang up and quit trying to call on Him. You are never called to fail, you are always called to wait on the Lord!

God loves you and He’s for you. Ask Him to teach you how to listen for His still small voice. Ask Him to reveal the Word so that you know when it’s the Lord calling and not the enemy. You will get crank calls, but God’s call uplifts your heart, even in correction, and He never speaks in opposition to His Word. Run to Him this morning and thank Him that, even in your darkest hour, He is speaking to your heart. And live, precious believer, with your great faith of believing in His answers and His provision always.

Luke 11:9-10 So I say to you, ask and keep on asking, and it will be given to you; seek and keep on seeking, and you will find; knock and keep on knocking, and the door will be opened to you. For everyone who keeps on asking [persistently], receives; and he who keeps on seeking [persistently], finds; and to him who keeps on knocking [persistently], the door will be opened. AMP

Hebrews 6:17-19 Thus God, determining to show more abundantly to the heirs of promise the immutability of His counsel, confirmed it by an oath, that by two immutable things, in which it is impossible for God to lie, we might have strong consolation, who have fled for refuge to lay hold of the hope set before us. This hope we have as an anchor of the soul, both sure and steadfast, and which enters the Presence behind the veil.

I John 5:14-15 Now this is the confidence that we have in Him, that if we ask anything according to His will, He hears us. And if we know that He hears us, whatever we ask, we know that we have the petitions that we have asked of Him.

Psalm 59:9 I will wait for You, O You his Strength; for God is my defense.

The Steps Of The Righteous

Our governor has begun to phase in the reopening of businesses in our state. Because of this, the organization I work for has begun to look at some plans for employees. We stayed open, but public traffic into our offices was stopped for several weeks.

As I think about the situation and what we’ve all been through I wonder if we are ready to open our doors. And just like everyone else, I wonder if it is going to be safe to do so.

Oh beloved, we just want to be safe don’t we? Some have made extreme fun of the whole ordeal, some have cried conspiracy theory about it all and others have decided the world is coming to an end. It could be any one of the three or it could just be a pandemic, period. They have occurred before. Whatever you think or however you consider the return to normal, you can know one thing for sure – God is with His people.

Whether we want to continue to hide away or we desire to be free to do whatever we want – God has said, and this is a Scripture I saw as I began to write this morning: The steps of a good man are ordered by the Lord. Your steps, beloved believer, are ordered by the Lord. And there’s more! God delights in his way and blesses his path! Does this mean God delights in the evil actions of the world? Of course not. Does this mean God is glad when a believer faces troubles? Absolutely not.

But what you and I can find our only security in – is that God is walking us through everything we encounter in this world. We never walk alone. We never have to face anything on our own, in our own strength. We also never have to hide away in fear or dread of our future. Our only security is in the truth that God is with us and we have an ultimate destiny. This world is not your home beloved. This wonderful earth was never meant to make you and I comfortable, happy and safe. But it is the property of Almighty God, our Father, and because of Jesus we are here to occupy – live for Jesus, share the Gospel, and look for His imminent return! Does everyone on earth love God and live for Him? NO. But it is both your responsibility and privilege to walk in blessings and stand in faith until He comes to get you!

God loves you and He’s for you. Ask Him for an increase in faith and trust as you face the “return to normal”. Trust Him to walk with you just as He has all of your born-again life. And live, precious powerful ordained believer in the Light of His security and plan!

Psalm 37:23-24 The steps of a [good and righteous] man are directed and established by the Lord and He delights in his way [and blesses his path]. When he falls, he will not be hurled down, because the Lord is the One who holds his hand and sustains him.

1 Samuel 2:9 He guards the steps of His faithful ones, but the wicked perish in darkness; for by his own strength shall no man prevail.

Philippians 1:21 For to me, to live is Christ, and to die is gain.

Psalm 90:17 May the favor of the Lord our God rest upon us; establish for us the work of our hands–establish the work of our hands!

Psalm 147:11 No, the LORD’s delight is in those who fear Him, those who put their hope in His unfailing love.

The Keyboard

As I sit here waiting to hear what the Lord wants to talk about this morning I notice my keyboard. Several of the letters have been wiped clean through use. They are now solid black with no obvious proof of what letter they represent. If I didn’t know where the letters were I’d not be able to type.

Oh beloved, God speaks to our hearts this morning. We have to know God and the Word so that when we can’t see in the natural we just know. When all the evidence looks wiped clean we must be able to proceed in faith. Now is one of those times. Especially now that returning to our former routines is being discussed and planned.

God wants you to know this morning that you can walk out of this messy season in faith instead of fear. Whatever you think you have lost, God is able to restore for you. And God’s restoration always brings more than the former provision. You can’t see it right now, but if you will keep looking for it you will find it. Faith is the missing letter on a keyboard. It’s there even if you don’t see it. God is better than a keyboard. As you press forward into freedom, you will find Him there. He is not just the invisible key to your life, He IS your life. Through Christ everything has been made new. Through Christ the blank places of the unknown have been made evident. Through Christ, even when you make a misstep you can go back and start again. Sheltering in place has been good, but returning to normal can be magnificent. As long as you concentrate on what you already know, you won’t have to fear anything or avoid the new freedom. Whatever you learned in the secret place of this season you can take it with you without hesitation in to your upcoming freedom. Whatever you do, you can rehearse God’s promises because you already know He is there.

God loves you and He’s for you. Don’t let your missing key baffle you. God delights in showing you mercy and that’s what He’s giving you this morning. It reveals hidden things and provides stepping stones that always lead to more grace, more love and more joy. Run to the Lord, bless His holy name, give Christ first place and allow Holy Spirit full access to your mind and heart. And then walk into the future with full awareness of all you need for life and godliness!

1 Corinthians 2:10 But God has revealed it to us by the Spirit. The Spirit searches all things, even the deep things of God.

Psalm 25:14 The LORD confides in those who fear Him, and reveals His covenant to them.

John 14:26 But the Helper, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in My name, He will teach you all things, and bring to your remembrance all that I said to you.

John 8:32-33 So He said to the Jews who had believed Him, “If you continue in My word, you are truly My disciples. Then you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.”
