You Don’t Have To Dry Out

We had fresh cornbread the other night with our supper. It was so good. I forgot to cover it and put it away so within the next day it became dry and hard. What started out tasty ended up being given to the birds.

Our faith and prayer life are like that cornbread. Things happen and first thing you know prayer is neglected. Faith hardens. Some people have even thrown their faith out because they forgot what prayer really is. It’s an ongoing relationship with the Lord, who keeps us soft and pliable and enjoyable. Many times I’ve been faced with the decision to keep trusting God and although sometimes it was hard, God always shows up in my mess, in my heartache, in my unanswered prayers, in my unwarranted troubles and stills my heart, holds me close and gives me fresh hope.

Oh beloved, don’t give up. Don’t give up on a thing. Don’t give up on God. Even today, when it’s been so long that you’ve been away from Him, He’s calling you by name. Don’t give up on prayer. Don’t think because things didn’t happen the way you wanted that God messed up or let you down. Don’t fall for the tricks of the enemy. He will tell you that God doesn’t answer prayer, doesn’t care about your aching heart and has left you out to dry up and be thrown away.

You are a jewel in the heart of the Father. Don’t allow the days of hardship to dry you out. Don’t stay away from the Lord. Let Him cover you and keep you soft and pliable. Don’t give away your hope. He was with you when bad things happened and He will be with you no matter what. Your destiny isn’t to live outside of your faith. Your destiny is to recover the flavor of your walk with the Lord and return to belief in and trust in and reliance in Him.

God loves you and He’s for you. Someone prayed for me when I was at my lowest. So this morning I am praying for you. I pray that out of the riches of the Lord, you will feel His presence like never before. That you will talk to Him about everything and let Him protect you, guide you and keep you all the days of your life. And I pray most of all that you will know how deep and wide and long His love for you is, as you live in faith and the light of His glory and grace.

Deuteronomy 31:8 The LORD is the one who goes ahead of you; He will be with you. He will not fail you or forsake you. Do not fear or be dismayed.

Proverbs 28:14 Blessed is the one who always trembles before God, but whoever hardens their heart falls into trouble.

Psalm 31:22 In panic I cried out, “I am cut off from the LORD!” But you heard my cry for mercy and answered my call for help.

Psalm 51:10 Create in me a clean heart, O God, And renew a steadfast spirit within me.

A Giving Father

Our three youngest grands spent the night with us last night. This is always an adventure. One of them had two dollar bills and a penny. It was burning a hole in her pocket! She asked continually if she could please go spend her money.

We headed to the local dollar store and she was thrilled to bring home a tea set and a doll set. I had a sip of that tea and it was delicious! She was fine with spending all she had, but this grandmother picked up the tab for her. And the other two got goodies as well. Nobody went home without something.

Can you imagine this grandmother holding back? Saying no? Just letting them look and not get anything? This has been a struggle for many of us – to believe that God doesn’t demand payment nor does He withhold things. Yet often I have prayed and held back, sometimes I’ve looked at my own empty pockets of faith and said surely I cannot ask for more.

Oh beloved, God speaks to my heart and to yours. Even when you have totally spent your life on things and find your pockets empty He is with you. He is the most generous Father any child could ever have. He isn’t miserly nor does He hold anything back. Just as I ended up paying for one grand’s purchases, so too I did that for the others. No favorites. God loves us all equally and He lavishes His blessings out on all who go with Him. But He also loves each of us uniquely. The boys didn’t want a tea set. God knows your desires and hopes and dreams. He also knows the gift within you that needs stirring up. You have something so very distinctive that only you can fulfill in the body of Christ. He has made all the payment you will ever need to answer His call on your life. You are free to be you. You are blessed to ask for more. You can go to the Father, because of the Son and find more than you could ever ask for in the natural. He does wonderful things that the flesh can never do. He removes anger, He returns peace, He declares innocent, He discards guilt, He calls the unqualified, He makes brand new, admirable, lovable, forgiving people out of us all.

God loves you and He’s for you. He wants you to know that you are worth His time, His effort and His love. He says stop looking in the store window of the Word and start asking for the gifts, the calling and the blessings. And watch as He teaches you to live in the Light of everything meant for a beloved child of His own!

2 Peter 1:3 By His divine power, God has given us everything we need for living a godly life. We have received all of this by coming to know Him, the one who called us to Himself by means of His marvelous glory and excellence.

I Corinthians 1:20 God has united you with Christ Jesus. For our benefit God made Him to be wisdom itself. Christ made us right with God; He made us pure and holy, and He freed us from sin.

I Peter 2:9 But you are not like that, for you are a chosen people. You are royal priests, a holy nation, God’s very own possession. As a result, you can show others the goodness of God, for He called you out of the darkness into His wonderful light.

John 15:16 You did not choose Me but I chose you, and appointed you that you would go and bear fruit, and that your fruit would remain, so that whatever you ask of the Father in My name He may give to you.

My parents had a lovely 75 year old home that we just loved. It was one of those 12 foot ceiling homes with huge windows and a wraparound porch. Although I have fond memories of it and have shared about it before, what comes to mind this morning are the changes that have been made to it. The original windows have been replaced with black metal windows. The wrap around porch now has a carport out front. It no longer looks like the home it was. If I could go back and live in that house we all loved it’s not there anymore. It’s been modernized and is hardly recognizable.

Oh beloved, have you been dreaming of going back? Are you wishing that things could be the same? Do you want to fix something that’s long gone? It’s impossible to recover the past. The enemy knows this, but he loves for God’s children to long for what they cannot have.

This morning God speaks and He says dear child, I AM that I AM. I was with you then and it was wonderful. But I AM not there anymore. Neither should you be. Memories are fine but they aren’t meant to hold you captive. What you need now is to focus on this day and seek to enjoy the blessings of the here and now. Regrets only cause you to live in misery. Wanting to go back only frustrates. But My plans for you are today. I have this day as a gift for you. I also have a future for you that is good. Lay aside the burdens of yesterday. You won’t find what you’re really looking for in the past. Enjoy the good memories but follow Me. Your calling is here and now. Your strength and wisdom and power are in this day. You are anointed for such a time as this.

God loves you and He’s for you. He has plans that are out of this world for you. If you will look away from the past and focus on Him, you will see how wonderful life really is. Christ died and rose again for your new life. Rejoice that you can live with blessings and honor in the Light of His plans for your life.

Jeremiah 29:11 For I know the plans I have for you,” says the Lord. “They are plans for good and not for disaster, to give you a future and a hope.

Psalm 118:24 This is the day which the LORD has made; Let us rejoice and be glad in it!

Psalm 17:15 As for me, I shall behold Your face in righteousness; I will be satisfied with Your likeness when I awake.

Step Into The Presence

Our Stella is going to be in another pageant. We went to the dress shop and as we stepped inside Stella was mesmerized. “It’s Beeeuuutiffuuul!” Her sweet words and huge smile melted the shop owner’s heart. Everywhere Stella looked there were pageant dresses. She had stepped into her dream place and she loved it. She loved every dress and wanted to try them all on. And she just about did! A princess stepped into the royal palace of pageantry and felt right at home.

When we believers step into the presence of God we don’t just feel at home, we say with Stella, “It’s beautiful!” Why we don’t spend more time there I guess is life gets so busy. But a princess of royal rebirth should spend much time in the presence of the Lord, for that’s where our wisdom, power, love and pure joy is found.

Oh beloved, don’t stand outside the doors of the throne room of the Lord. Fling those doors open and taste and see that the Lord is good. Hold nothing back. You’ve been living in the mundane and the harsh looking at only what is going on in the physical, the temporary. God says in My Presence is where you will feel most at home. And in My presence is where you find relief and all you ever have wanted. When I was in my worst moments with my husband’s illness and all that was going on, I knew I had to get deeper into the presence of the Lord – I had nowhere else of comfort to be. You too, precious believer, will find more wonderful life, hope, beauty and faith as you step into the secret place with the Lord.

God knows what’s going on in your life and He is summoning you to enter in so that He can minister to you in ways that will relieve you, revive you, redeem you and give you more hope for beauty in life than you’ve ever had. Hurry into His presence this morning and linger there for you will be filled with the living water and there is precious little time to waste.

God loves you and He’s for you. We weren’t meant to live outside the palace. We were meant to live from the palace. Aren’t we blessed that we don’t just wait for heaven, He sends us into the heavenly realm of His presence daily and we find it to be so beautiful. Rejoice, beloved, that you can thrive in the Light of His Presence always.

Acts 17:28 ‘For in him we live and move and have our being.’ As some of your own poets have said, ‘We are his offspring.’

Psalm 16:11 You will show me the path of life; In Your presence is fullness of joy; In Your right hand there are pleasures forevermore.

Psalm 40:11 You, O LORD, will not withhold Your compassion from me; Your lovingkindness and Your truth will continually preserve me.

Psalm 91:1 Those who live in the secret place of the Most High will find rest in the shadow of the Almighty.

Three Doctors

Once again I had a dream. As I woke up I felt that this dream was for everyone who reads the devotions. Danny went to the doctor and they discovered he had a disease. It was not pronounceable, so I know it was not a warning dream from God to check things out.
First the attending physician was very matter of fact. Second doctor came through and she was pregnant. She talked a lot about stuff and very little about Danny’s condition. Third doctor was young and earnest. Finally as they all happened to be together for just a few minutes the third doctor said, “Look, let’s get him to someone who deals with this all the time. They need some hope that they can have more time together.” Tears welled up in my eyes as this doctor cared about our feelings. And I had been feeling this – really? Another disease? Haven’t we had enough? More? God really?

Oh beloved, God wants you and me to know this morning that He is the Great Physician. He is the God of Hope and Comfort. He understands our weaknesses, He knows our sorrows and He is well acquainted with our grief. He has a plan even in the pain of it all. He is not a disinterested diagnosis giver, nor is He only concerned with heaven. He loves you. He has a plan for you. He says to quit fearing every turn in your life. Quit looking for the next shoe to fall or the next diagnosis to get you. You are alive and He is with you – that’s a combination of royalty. You are His child, His heir, His benefactor, His adopted one. You can either fear your way through life, knowing that you are about to succumb to things or you can rejoice that you have royal blood in your veins and royal salvation in your mind and heart.

Choose wisely today. Start by thanking God for this day. Continue with praising Him for who He is. Praise Him for the three in your life – He is the Father, and the Son and the Holy Spirit. A triple anointing for your life that gives you something to really live for! You don’t need more things, you have everything!

God loves you and He’s for you! Rejoice in this gray hairs, which is a privilege that many never get to see. Rejoice that you are the age you are and rejoice that you can start living, thriving and enjoying life, in the light of His Wonderful Plan!

Job 33:4 For the Spirit of God has made me, and the breath of the Almighty gives me life.

Nehemiah 9:6 You alone are the LORD. You made the heavens, even the highest heavens, and all their starry host, the earth and all that is on it, the seas and all that is in them. You give life to everything, and the multitudes of heaven worship you.

Job 10:12 You have granted me life and lovingkindness; And Your care has preserved my spirit.

Psalm 63:3 Because Your lovingkindness is better than life, my lips will praise You.

Psalm 139:16 You saw me before I was born. Every day of my life was recorded in your book. Every moment was laid out before a single day had passed.
