My hubby and our oldest granddaughter went to the movies together recently. It was her Christmas gift to her Popaw to see a new installment of movie he enjoys. They were the only two people at that showing. It’s amazing that once the theaters were brimming full of people. They sure had their pick of where to sit.
I think of my childhood and a best friend walking with me to the show on Saturdays. We had ushers back in the day. Uniformed, young men usually, who were there to escort you to your seat. Each one carried small flashlights to guide patrons who arrived after the movie had started, and they were also the ones who maintained order and kept kids and adults alike from getting rowdy during the film.
Oh beloved, things have changed. But one thing will never change. At least not for believers. We have Someone more wonderful than an usher. We have the Lord. His Holy Spirit will guide us and keep our lives in order. And one day He will escort us all the way home to heaven.
In the meantime, He is an Ever Present help. When you need encouragement, He will give it. When you need guidance, He will point the way. When your life plays out like a bad movie, He will help you get through it all even when you don’t understand the story line. Today your life is worth so much that God wouldn’t leave you for a moment. He is pleased to escort you with open arms and a merciful heart. The earth may be so rowdy now that it is in full rebellion. But God won’t fail you. He is shining His light of love for you to see this morning. Nothing escapes His notice. This brings comfort to you, because you are living righteously. But it might bring fear to those who are not living for Him. No matter, because even if you are walking through hard times, God won’t fail to help you all the way.
God loves you and He is for you. Take His hand this morning and thank Him for His help. Praise Him for His promises. The movie of your life may not play out just like you want, but it is the best, because He promises to work it all out for you because of Jesus who has Authored and will be the Finisher of your faith.
