Old Age Is A Blessing

I checked the weather twice in the night and saw “snow flurries” as an ongoing event here. I was just a little disappointed when I checked the back deck to find no snow at all. I am now old enough to not want much winter weather. But I am still young enough to want some snow.

Oh beloved, age is just a number they say. The Lord wants you and I to know this morning that life is a gift whatever age you are. And if it’s a gift from the Lord then thanksgiving and praise should be our response.

God knows your ailments and conditions. He says to you today: Don’t live by those. Don’t rely on those for conversation either. Instead rely on the Lord and rehearse what He says about you. Do you know that your life is a blessing and has great purpose, even today? Even if you’ve seen much hardship and have had great losses in life, you have no need to be in despair. Not once in God’s Word does He call His own “hopeless people”. Most of our lives are lived with eyes on this world only. But our lives in Christ are meant to be lived with an eye on the other shore. Heaven bound, citizens of the Kingdom that will not fade. If He needs you here today then ask Him to show you why. Each step of your life is a preparation for His Kingdom on earth as it is in heaven. He wants to relieve you of fear and agony. Fear of the future and agony about life. He wants to remind you that He knows what’s going on in the headlines and the hearts of the leaders of this world. And since He doesn’t worry and fear and agonize over it, you don’t have to either. Prayer is the opposite of agony. Praise is the opposite of fear. Promises rehearsed from the Word is the opposite of worry. You aren’t a victim of the times or your age. You are God’s in Christ and filled with Holy Spirit: you have the mind of Christ!

God loves you and He’s for you. Rise up this morning and thank Him for the gift of life. And ask Him how to live for Jesus today!

Isaiah 46:4 Even to your old age and gray hairs I am He, I am He who will sustain you. I have made you and I will carry you; I will sustain you and I will rescue you.

Psalm 71:18 Even when I am old and gray, do not forsake me, my God, till I declare Your power to the next generation, Your mighty acts to all who are to come.

Proverbs 16:31 Gray hair is a crown of splendor; it is attained in the way of righteousness.

About Rebekah Beene

In a Women’s meeting in 1983, I went up for prayer and to see if God had “anything for me”. The woman of God who was praying for people spoke over my life. She said these words: “You will write books. You can go to the bank on it. Rivers of living water will flow from your belly…”
