Enlisted In God’s Holy army

My hubby and one of his buddies left high school to enlist together. While both men were willing, only his buddy was taken. Turned out Danny had a perforated ear drum and failed the hearing test. That friend wasn’t in the service much more than a couple of months before he died in combat. Joining the service is a heroic act. Dying for your cause is a bigger sacrifice than most of us realize. Danny’s buddy was one of millions who have died for their country.

If you look at your history you will undoubtedly find at least one soldier who died in service of this country. And there are still scores of missing in action who may never be accounted for. I have pictures of some of my own ancestors in service uniforms. And there are many stories told through the family of the rigors of wartime. With war, both sides want to win. The enemy each generation face was vicious, fierce and cunning.

Oh beloved, on this memorial day, let’s learn what to remember and what to forget. It’s time to remember that there is One who died for the freedom of all mankind. He alone is worthy of our praise, honor and worship. Jesus is the Captain of heaven’s armies. He is going to return for a victorious band of soldiers who stood for righteousness, lived for heaven’s reward and marched to the beat of a different drum than the world. You are part of that army if you have been born again.

God wants you to know this morning that He was with soldiers on the battlefield. He knew every ancestor you didn’t ever meet. He knows your battles as well. He sees you fighting the invisible foe who comes like a flood to destroy you. If he cannot destroy you outright he will distract you with sorrow, mourning, worry, fear, earthly desires and more. Every day is a battle for your heart and mind. You may not have known you enlisted in the Lord’s army when you said yes to Christ. But you have been valiant to walk in victory all the way. My dad, along with many American soldiers, has a plaque noting his service to his country (my dad in both World Wars). You do not have a visible plaque but you have a reward – eternal life. Don’t waste another day mourning what you cannot change. Stop memorializing the pain others have given you. It’s time to honor the One who fell on your behalf and rose again! Jesus alone!

God loves you and He’s for you. Happy are the people whose God is the Lord! Run to Him this morning and thank Him that He is Lord over all the earth. And live, precious enlisted believing soldier, in the Light of His Word and His will!

2 Timothy 2:4 No soldier in active service entangles himself in the affairs of everyday life, so that he may please the one who enlisted him as a soldier.

2 Corinthians 10:4 For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal but mighty in God for pulling down strongholds

2 Corinthians 6:7 in [speaking] the word of truth, in the power of God; by the weapons of righteousness for the right hand [like holding the sword to attack] and for the left [like holding the shield to defend] AMP

2 Corinthians 2:14 But thanks be to God, who always leads us in triumph in Christ, and manifests through us the sweet aroma of the knowledge of Him in every place.

About Rebekah Beene

In a Women’s meeting in 1983, I went up for prayer and to see if God had “anything for me”. The woman of God who was praying for people spoke over my life. She said these words: “You will write books. You can go to the bank on it. Rivers of living water will flow from your belly…”
