This is no ordinary weekend. There’s a holiday attached to it. That’s generally a good thing. But this holiday isn’t so simple. In fact, it can be quite complicated can’t it?
Oh beloved, it’s complicated isn’t it? Life and holidays. Some of you this morning would rather take a trip than be home this Sunday. The longing for your own mother who is gone is almost too much. Sure you can visit a grave and place flowers, but she’s not there is she? For some of you life has been ripped in two and now you just want to hide away until the holiday is over. Disappointments, rejections, abandonments – these things make holidays so complicated that nobody wants to even wake up till it’s over.
God wants you to know this morning that He sees you right where you are. And He celebrates you. He knows your past and He knows what you’ve been through and He knows who will call and who won’t. Everything about this holiday is well within His knowledge – the good, the bad and the ugly.
But He says to you today, on the day before that holiday, it’s time to celebrate the truth about you. You’re more than somebody’s mom, you’re more than somebody’s daughter. You are His! Your identity far outreaches the hardships of relationships. Your identity is much more secure than the emptiness you feel.
He says rehearse His goodness over all the complicated stuff. Relax. Let yourself breathe. Focus on the life you have in Christ over the life you wish you had. Give yourself a card! Write yourself a note! You are worth it, because Jesus made you worth it. And while you can’t change a thing in this world, you can change your outlook. As you have prayed and prayed, you have no idea at what point everything could change. But you can know that God is higher than you and sees it all from a perspective you can’t envision. Walking in faith, on holidays like this, is your power connection. Tears can flow, but they don’t have to control. And now is not the time to get practical and say, “It is what it is”. For surely in the Spirit nothing is ever what it is. This holiday, and your situations, are the ground for extraordinary activity and celebration!
God loves you and He’s for you. Allow Him to soothe your heart and give you peace. And live, precious believer, in the Light of His love and in light of your position in Christ on this holiday coming up and beyond.
