Rest Area

We stopped at a rest area yesterday on our day trip. This particular rest area has been closed off and on quite a bit. So I thought it probably had been updated. But when I walked in it was all original from probably the 60’s. It’s interesting that some rest areas get updated and others get completely rebuilt. Some are even rebuilt with tornado shelters and watch for snakes warnings. There are even rest areas with wireless internet and air conditioning!

Oh beloved, all rest areas are not the same. That’s for sure. But listen. This morning God speaks to my heart and you and I need to know this, especially in times like these. You’ve been looking for a place of rest. You’re tired, worn out and frazzled. You need to find shelter from the storm. But you won’t find it in the normal places. Not now. Once you could count on people, places and things to comfort and restore you. But you’re not finding that so easy anymore.

God wants you to know this morning that He alone provides the rest you are looking for. He will always give you rest if you will just come to Him. His rest is found for every situation of life. Whether it’s rest from sorrow over things done to you, or incompetence to be free from things you have problems with. He is more than a shelter – He’s your Answer. And when you enter into His shelter, you will find that you have rest from the desire to find shelter anywhere else. It’s amazing how His rest works. It relaxes you and gives you strength all at the same time. You can put your burdens down. His rest heals, sets free and delivers. And it’s abiding. Because Holy Spirit is within you, there’s nothing to keep you from carrying His rest with you! Never will you find His rest a place you cannot enter; though human rest areas may be closed, He is never closed to you! People are searching for rest but you get to live at rest!

God loves you and He’s for you. Quickly, before the day takes over and you find yourself worn out in the day – run to Him and ask Him for fresh insight into His rest. Remain in His presence and walk in His ways, for you won’t tire out or give up in the heat of the times. And live, precious believer, in the Power of His Resurrection Rest and the Road of His Will all the days of your life!

Matthew 11:29 Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls.

Acts 3:19 Repent, then, and turn to God, so that your sins may be wiped out, that times of refreshing may come from the Lord.

Jeremiah 31:25 I will refresh the weary and satisfy the faint.

Psalm 62:1-2 My soul finds rest in God alone; my salvation comes from Him. He alone is my rock and my salvation; He is my fortress, I will never be shaken.

About Rebekah Beene

In a Women’s meeting in 1983, I went up for prayer and to see if God had “anything for me”. The woman of God who was praying for people spoke over my life. She said these words: “You will write books. You can go to the bank on it. Rivers of living water will flow from your belly…”
