Looking Beyond The Old

I heard about a drive-in movie theater that is new. It comes complete with vintage cars. You just pay to go in and you get the same experience that most of us had in our childhood. Only it’s artificial. I think there are still a couple of originals around including one in Arkansas. The old drive ins for the most part are a long-gone thing of the past.

Imagine what would happen if I wanted to go to the Elberta theater in Nashville and watch a movie. First, I’d have to try to get there. Then I’d have to park probably in someone’s yard maybe even in their house. I could tell them this is what we used to do here but they wouldn’t appreciate it at all.

Even though we know exactly where the old things used to be, we have to look beyond the old and look to the new.

Oh beloved, this morning God is speaking to our hearts. Life is good, but it is best lived not looking for the old comfortable past. Yes, we want to be young, we want to re-do some things and we love to watch old movies. But God has plans for us all that are good and they are futuristic – innovative and revolutionary. Even if you’ve raised your children and they are now grown, your life is not over. That was His revolutionary on time plan for you then. But the plans keep going and your life is meant to keep growing. Yes, there are still old drive in theaters. And yes, you can technically spend your life living in the past. But you won’t find looking back in the Bible, except for Lots wife who turned into a pillar of salt. Yes, you can have great remorse wishing you could re-do or un-do some mistake or sin. But everything is under the Blood so why would you want to keep digging it up?

God wants you to know that He sees the real you – and He calls you blessed today, anointed today, chosen today, and your breath in your lungs is a gift from Him. Stop wasting your sorrows and start replacing them with invigorating praise! Just one praiseworthy confession will begin your trip to the future rather than the past. It’s time for you to turn your praise and worship to a higher level so that you can find your purpose, regardless of age, ability or time.

God loves you and He’s for you. It’s not over till it’s over and then it’s off to heaven for the new and living way continues for you! Run to the Lord this morning, praise Jesus for His infinite mercy and bless Holy Spirit for remaining in you to give you life and power all of your days. And then live this day in the resurrection power that goes with you always.

Philippians 1:6 For I am confident of this very thing, that He who began a good work in you will perfect it until the day of Christ Jesus.

2 Corinthians 4:18 while we look not at the things which are seen, but at the things which are not seen; for the things which are seen are temporal, but the things which are not seen are eternal.

Psalm 103:1-5 Bless the Lord, O my soul, and all that is within me, bless His holy name. Bless the Lord, O my soul, and forget none of His benefits; Who pardons all your iniquities, Who heals all your diseases; Who redeems your life from the pit, Who crowns you with lovingkindness and compassion; Who satisfies your years with good things, So that your youth is renewed like the eagle.

About Rebekah Beene

In a Women’s meeting in 1983, I went up for prayer and to see if God had “anything for me”. The woman of God who was praying for people spoke over my life. She said these words: “You will write books. You can go to the bank on it. Rivers of living water will flow from your belly…”
