More Strength To Pull It Up

Part of our plan for home updating includes landscaping. It didn’t originally. But overgrown shrubs covered the windows at the front of our house, so we decided they had to go. Danny tied the first one to the pickup and I pulled it out without much effort. Shrub two was more stubborn, so a heavier rope was used. By the third shrub he got a very heavy chain to dislodge the shrubs. It was much harder work than I had anticipated. By the time the shrubs were free we were tired but satisfied.

God spoke to my heart as I contemplated the three different things used to wrap the shrubs – “You’re going to need more strength to pull up this root system.”

Oh beloved, the Christian life is absolutely wonderful isn’t it? If you’re like me you prefer things to go well and problems to be fixed easily. We pray, we hope and we wait. But sometimes the issues of life are more complicated and the enemy seems more stubborn. Just as pulling those root systems up from our front yard was more difficult than I thought, so too there are times when we pray and the issue is far more difficult. Jesus gave His disciples instructions on this type of issue. He told them that fasting along with prayer would be needed. He also told them they would need faith. The scriptures also say to wait on the Lord.

All this to say you’ve been praying for some time for a particular issue or loved ones. It’s a stubborn situation that you’ve seen nothing budging about. You are encouraged to keep praying, keep knocking and keep seeking. As you seek God’s face for the one you loved, He will instruct you for the deeper issues of life. Prayer partners – a person who will valiantly, specifically and continually pray with you carries great power. But don’t share with just anyone – this is war in the heavenlies to pray for release of captives – and you need true intercessory partnership for the root to come up and out.

God wants you to know that He loves your prayers – your conversations with Him about everything. And more is going on in the Spirit than you can imagine. Keep praying and keep waiting on the Lord to do what only He can do! You’re not the sum of your frustrations in prayer – you are enlisted in the Lord’s army and are waiting peacefully on the Captain to move!

God loves you and He’s for you. This army of faith you are in is already stationed for victory. Rejoice that you can take everything and everyone to God in prayer, knowing only He can change a heart – but that He wants to! Praise Him that in the meantime you can live in the grace and mercy of a steadfast heart who is counting on the Lord!

2 Chronicles 20:3 Jehoshaphat was afraid and turned his attention to seek the LORD, and proclaimed a fast throughout all Judah.

Luke 2:37 Then she lived as a widow to the age of eighty-four. She never left the Temple but stayed there day and night, worshiping God with fasting and prayer.

Matthew 7:7 Keep on asking, and you will receive what you ask for. Keep on seeking, and you will find. Keep on knocking, and the door will be opened to you.

Hebrews 11:6 And without faith it is impossible to please Him, for he who comes to God must believe that He is and that He is a rewarder of those who seek Him.

About rebekahbeene

In a Women’s meeting in 1983, I went up for prayer and to see if God had “anything for me”. The woman of God who was praying for people spoke over my life. She said these words: “You will write books. You can go to the bank on it. Rivers of living water will flow from your belly…”
