Since it was such a nice weekend, Danny wanted us to go out and do some practice shooting. I say the term we loosely as I am mostly the tag along helper. I did shoot once. It was a bit of a disaster. Combining my dislike of pistols with my inability to shoot well makes for at least comedy relief. At worst, was what we got. A quick handoff of the pistol back to its rightful owner, along with a jammed bullet. I had the gun held pretty steady as I prepared to shoot, but at the last minute I closed my eyes. I missed the target and because I didn’t hold my wrist steady the remaining ammo didn’t load up into the chamber right. Danny had to fix it.
Oh beloved, when it comes to the Christian life, we have got to learn to hold steady in all situations. We cannot afford to just close our eyes and hope our aim is good. We have to face every situation with our eyes wide open. It’s rough I know. I’m not a good shot, but I love my husband enough to try. God knows we’re not perfect in our aims to be Christlike and display His truth in our lives. But we learn to love Him enough to try. And as we trust Him with all the things that come our way, we learn to be steadier and steadier in the faith. I could have dropped the gun and ran crying to our vehicle. But that would have just made things worse. Instead I handed it off to my husband. We too, hand our problems, our broken dreams, our hard places, off to the Lord and look to Him to fix it.
You may never think you can be so steady, but God is teaching you, even in the times of weakness, how to prevail in prayer, hold the line in the Spirit and live for Jesus in spite of it all. Better days are ahead, but even if there were to be no better days, God is with you all the way. No shaming, no condemning, no refusing to let you try ever again. No, God sees the potential in you, because He sees the Blood of Christ that perfects the weakest and steadies the shakiest.
God loves you and He’s for you. Try again. Keep praying. Don’t give up. At the right time, just as Christ stepped in to mediate for your life, so too God will help you. Run to Him this morning, tell Him everything and give it all to Him. He’s making your life a living example and epistle of His wonder working power!
2 Corinthians 12:9-10And He has said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for power is perfected in weakness.” Most gladly, therefore, I will rather boast about my weaknesses, so that the power of Christ may dwell in me. Therefore, I am well content with weaknesses, with insults, with distresses, with persecutions, with difficulties, for Christ’s sake; for when I am weak, then I am strong.
2 Corinthians 6:4 In everything we do, we show that we are true ministers of God. We patiently endure troubles and hardships and calamities of every kind.
Psalm 119:173 Let Your hand be ready to help me, For I have chosen Your precepts.
Colossians 2:6-7 Therefore as you have received Christ Jesus the Lord, so walk in Him, having been firmly rooted and now being built up in Him and established in your faith, just as you were instructed, and overflowing with gratitude.
Psalm 18:32 It is God who arms me with strength and keeps my way secure.
