Snake Bit

It’s been over 10 years since a little dog we had was snake bitten in our back yard. It was a huge snake- the gap of the fang marks was a full inch apart. It was really rough on the little dog, but she managed to survive. We never found the culprit. But I’ve avoided the area near the shed where she was bitten and I’ve kept the grands out of that cubby hole area in the back yard. Until yesterday.

One of our grandsons came running in hollering snake! Danny and our daughter ran outside and sure enough a huge water moccasin was coiled up at the creek by his shop. Could it be the same culprit from all those years ago? It certainly was the same area. I’d feel a lot better if they had been able to dispose of it.

The devil is a real snake in the grass. His bite may no longer be deadly for you thanks to Jesus, who put satan under His feet. But this nemesis will show up now and then to scare a believer and make them wary of venturing out. Just as Id like to be rid of snakes in my yard forever, so too I’d love to be rid of the enemy’s lurking in my life forever. He’s a beaten foe, but he will be dealt with in our lives until we go home to heaven. I love walking through the yard and seeing the beautiful greenery unfolding and the flowers profusely blooming, but if I concentrate on what might be lurking there I will avoid it. Instead God tells us to trust Him, follow Him and let Him show you the beauty of life.

Oh beloved, this morning is your day! It’s time to venture out of the safety of your enclosed life. To be sure you will have encounters – but most of them will be of the outstanding kind. The enemy doesn’t wait for you to venture out on walks in your yard or spiritual adventures beyond your borders. But your life doesn’t consist in avoidance at all costs. Your life consists in widening your borders, gaining new territory and moving out into unknown places with Christ.

Just as I won’t walk through the high grass or watery areas in my yard without proper foot covering, so too believers don’t venture out without the covering of the Spirit realm to protect against the lurking enemy’s bite. You beloved, are stronger than that. You are bolder than that. You are more protected than that. All you need to move out and move on is Christ. He is enough. He knows how to deal with the snake of the universe and He knows how to take care of you. Your life is not summed up in evasion, but rather in invasion. Everywhere you go, in the Spirit, as a believer, you invade the atmosphere of the angelic realm with the wisdom, power and love of Christ! Don’t waste another moment trying to play it safe. Enjoy every day. Live without fear. Remember whose you are. And remind yourself daily that you are a powerful force for the Kingdom and glory of God.

God loves you and He’s for you. That’s power! That’s strength! That’s protection! Run to the Lord this morning and thank Him for His immeasurable gift and live in the Light of the Power of the Cross from now on!

I Chronicles 4:10 Now Jabez called on the God of Israel, saying, “Oh that You would bless me indeed and enlarge my border, and that Your hand might be with me, and that You would keep me from harm that it may not pain me!” And God granted him what he requested.

Ephesians 1:3 Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us in Christ with every spiritual blessing in the heavenly realms.

John 8:12 Then Jesus again spoke to them, saying, “I am the Light of the world; he who follows Me will not walk in the darkness, but will have the Light of life.”

Colossians 1:13 For He has rescued us from the dominion of darkness and brought us into the kingdom of the Son He loves…

About rebekahbeene

In a Women’s meeting in 1983, I went up for prayer and to see if God had “anything for me”. The woman of God who was praying for people spoke over my life. She said these words: “You will write books. You can go to the bank on it. Rivers of living water will flow from your belly…”

  1. It’s so important to remember the sovereignty, protection, and love of God. Otherwise, we will live in fear, won’t we?! Thanks for sharing this reminder.

My dog was bitten by a copperhead last year and I’ve been wary about the edges of our yard too. I like you analogy and we ought to learn to be more careful about our spiritual health after being snake bitten by the enemy, but unfortunately, we often dont learn our lesson very well and keep getting injured over and over again.
