Valentine’s Day. How well I remember being a secretary at a junior high school and all the chaos surrounding that day. We had to have a system because the florists and parents would bring dozens of gifts to the school. We were in charge of disbursing them out to the right student. Believe me, it was not easy. And woe to us if we gave the wrong gift to anyone. Of course, there was always a leftover or two that didn’t get picked up for one reason or another. It was the roughest school day of the year! It’s often a rough day for the average gal, especially. It’s meant to make us all feel loved, but really it’s almost brutal. Like the country western singer croons “When will I be loved?”
Last year was a monumental year for me. Finding illness beating at our door, along with other issues we could not control, I found myself face to face with fear of being alone. I understand in a whole new way how it might feel to lose that one Valentine above all others. But God has such lavish love for me and for you that we don’t have to fear the future. We can’t live in that fear, not at Valentine’s Day or any other day.
Oh beloved, God is so lavish with you. He pours His love out on you every single day. He won’t miss a single person in His pursuit of presenting all His love to you. Yes, He loves the whole world, so much so that He sacrificed His own Son for everyone. But He loves you personally, perfectly and perpetually. You can’t earn His love and you cannot stop its flow towards you. He isn’t out to get you for past mistakes and other issues. Even if this is your worst Valentine’s Day ever you can rest in His love and find hope for your heart. It’s so much more than a box of candy and a card. It’s sweeter than the most fragrant flowers. It’s worth more than the most expensive perfume and never runs out.
He also wants you to know that you are His most favored one. How can this be? Wouldn’t it be chaos to disburse all His love and gifts to everyone? In the natural this is impossible. And the enemy wants you to live in touch with the natural. But beloved, you are in Christ, and therefore the love you receive must be received beyond your natural life. He covers your bad days with hope, your sorrowful days with joy and your lonely days with a Companionship that is out of this world. You aren’t the sum of what’s happened to you, even if someone has walked away, refused to love you or wanted you to believe you aren’t worth it. God says you are perfect for Him and He is going to stay the course beyond any holiday or above all human means of showing love.
God loves you and He’s for you. Happy Valentine’s Day and Happy Everyday! Rejoice beloved that you have someone to run to and find comfort and joy in His presence, as you live in the Light of God’s Redeeming Love!
2 Chronicles 20:21 After consulting the people, the king appointed singers to walk ahead of the army, singing to the LORD and praising Him for His holy splendor. This is what they sang: “Give thanks to the LORD; His faithful love endures forever!”
I Timothy 1:14 Oh, how generous and gracious our Lord was! He filled me with the faith and love that come from Christ Jesus.
2 Thessalonians 2:16-17 Now may our Lord Jesus Christ himself and God our Father, who loved us and by His grace gave us eternal comfort and a wonderful hope, comfort you and strengthen you in every good thing you do and say.
Psalm 59:17 O my Strength, to you I sing praises, for you, O God, are my refuge, the God who shows me unfailing love.
