I don’t think old songs of our teen years ever leaves our minds. The lyrics pop up every now and then. For several days I’ve heard “You can’t always get what you want.” I was never a fan of that band, but I did obviously hear their songs. Why would these lyrics come to mind?
Then I hear the Father speaking. It’s true we may not always get what we want. But in those times, we can be assured of this: We always get what we need right from the Lord. And when we roll our lives onto Christ we are assured to receive what God has for us. Each of us can be caught up in wants and feelings that aren’t from the Lord. When Danny was so very sick, my fears leaped to the forefront – because I always had him to rely on. But as the days and weeks progressed I learned to roll my cares on the Lord to provide for both of us in every way – physically, financially, emotionally and more. My want list also shrunk as I counted the blessings we did have.
Oh beloved, God alone can satisfy every longing in your heart. Whatever God in His wisdom, grace and love provides is more than enough for you. He is teaching, even in your longings, to allow Him to fulfill your longing heart with Him. He also promises to give you contentment in all things. The birds of the air and the lilies of the field are your signal of this truth. When you look around you will find yourself wanting. When you look to Him you will find yourself content – held together no matter what.
The Father also wants you to know that you are in Christ – sealed, delivered, blessed, provided for and taken care of in ways no earthly person, system or foundation can possibly give you. When you find yourself at odds with what you have – look into His Word. The riches of a life in Christ is your habitation regardless of other things. The Father promises to provide all your needs, give you a fruitful life and cause all things to work together for your good. Dissatisfaction is a robber along with comparison. But you beloved, have nothing to worry about for you are safe and blessed every day.
God loves you and He’s for you. Although we are all subject to the voice of the enemy speaking lack and need to us – we must learn to keep our eyes on the Word of God and keep our hearts still before the Lord. You can rejoice today because you have access to the Father to ask Him for help discerning between wants and needs. And you can praise Him for dissolving cares and solving your problems as you live in the Light of His loving care for you.
