When we came home from a month in the hospital and rehab we had a young red bud tree growing strongly and healthily in the crack of our front steps. It shouldn’t have been growing there but it was. We thought we’d just pull it up but no it was firmly rooted right where it shouldn’t be. How could it grow and flourish when it was just a tiny crack and there with real nutrients or water?
Honestly I’ve had times in my life when I didn’t feel like I was flourishing at all. There have been some tremendously hard spots where I’ve not seen anything and felt like I was squeezing life out of a crack in a step. Yet grow I did. Would I want the hard times again? No. But the truth is those hard times are when believers grow. And they grow and flourish strongly right in the midst of the tight spots of life.
Oh beloved, God sees where you are. He knows you are feeling the squeeze – of life’s hardships, of unanswered prayers, of misguided people. You want to be transplanted from the battle zone onto the white sands of pleasant living. But hold on beloved. God is at work here. He is going to use the very things that we go through – you and me both – to create something wonderful out of adversity. And your roots are going to go deep into the very spot you thought you’d die in. The soil you need is the Word of God. The water you need is the Living Water. You will thrive if you will just relax and let God do what He wants to do. The enemy never has the upper hand. The hardships are not going to last forever. The outcome is going to be glorious. Even if you get plucked up you will not be thrown away – you will be lovingly transplanted to God’s reward for staying faithful and praising Him in the hard, broken, arid ground of life.
God loves you and He’s for you. There are going to be days you won’t be able to say anything else. Repeat it as often as you need. It’s beautiful to the ears of heaven and it squashes the fears, worry and concerns the enemy tries to get you to focus on. Rejoice, rejoice and praise, praise, praise. And thrive where you are in the Light of His Truth and His Grace!
