Last night at the ballpark our little granddaughter and I were with her oldest brother for his practice. Their parents had to go with the other big brother to a game in another town. We got the perfect spot where we could watch brother practice on the field from the car. Of course Stella wanted to get out and play with the group of smaller children running around the field.
It didn’t take long for me to beckon her back to the car. One little boy was throwing a large chunk of cement around. Then another boy was using an old piece of rope as a whip. They were just being kids but it was just too easy for someone to get hurt. As she came up to the car she said she had a question for me. “Why do I have to stay close to you?” I told her it was because I knew how easily she could get hurt if she wandered away. We ended the evening with fun in the car singing songs and laughing together.
Oh beloved, God desires to keep you close to Him always. Those who wander can easily get hurt or entangled in things that are dangerous. He is your Father God and He has always got your best interest at heart. He knows the dangers. He knows what you can’t even know about situations. It’s imperative that you learn to cling to Him and hearken to His voice. Other voices will call you, even the devil will try to lure you. But you are learning to listen to Father alone. He’s not a taskmaster or a boss – He’s Abba – your Daddy God. He sent His Son to the cross so that you could have the abundant life and there is nothing this world has to offer that can compare to the glory of that life! With Holy Spirit indwelling you have this Comforter who is within you to give you wisdom and discernment, power and knowledge for every situation you are in. This is no stern parent and child lifestyle – this is a dependency upon God that will guide you and keep you safe all the days of your life!
God loves you and He’s for you! You are safest when you are closest to Him. Abide and don’t wander. Abide and live safely. Abide and know your boundaries. And live this life fully cared for and completely anointed in His covenant protection all the days of your life!
