Having a few extra moments the other morning I found myself watching a classic movie channel. I had seen that movie before, but not in many years. Before long I realized I was quite depressed as the movie was a pathological thriller. I didn’t remember how awful and sad it was. In fact as a child I don’t think I understood the storyline at all. But as an adult it was clear and I understood everything. As I left the house I realized that I wished I hadn’t even watched it. Depression hung on my shoulders like a sweater.
God spoke to my heart: What goes in settles there.
Oh beloved, we aren’t just random humans living a mundane existence. No, we who are born again are receptacles of God’s Glory! Vessels of honor we are called. Aren’t we blessed? The enemy wants to hang his lies on us like a straitjacket, but we now put on the Lord Jesus Christ! We are clothed in righteousness. We were once shrouded by things we didn’t understand. But now we no longer have to remain enslaved to spirits of sorrow, depression, fear, melancholy, or any other spirit. Holy Spirit power dwells within us and we use the weapons of righteousness to evict the spirits that once held us. We have been set free by the blood of the Lamb. Even though His children may occasionally contend with the enemy’s lies, we aren’t hopeless or helpless. We shrug off the vestiges of our past in praise and worship and sing a new song!
God loves you and He’s for you! Drink of His Word, listen for His Voice, follow His Lead and let the Kingdom of God settle into your heart. Then enjoy this magnificent walk of His resurrection living!
