As we watched “National Parks” on the Arkansas educational network I was reminded of some of our dates. Dating a young man who loved hunting and fishing I found a new love for the wooded areas near our families’ homes. One such place was Hickory Creek bottoms. Breathless the first time we walked there we came to a huge drop off that led to the creek itself. Such depth of quietness and beauty that was only pierced by a flock of wild turkeys flying off the forest floor. We just wanted to be quiet.
God spoke to my heart. The most spiritual trips a believer will ever make are those through the wilderness – those places where only the intrepid explorer dares to go. It is surely beyond the comfort zone and out on the limb and beyond. It may not be easy but it will be good because God will go with you and show you great and marvelous things you don’t know about while living on the known land.
Oh beloved, wilderness times seem so fearful. But God wants you to know that it is in these times that He speaks the most clearly and teaches the greatest lessons. Don’t fear the wilds beyond your comfort zone. Neither do you need to fear the aloneness of the forest. For beloved, there is a River that flows through it that is pure and holy and breathtaking. Don’t worry another day about where you are going, instead worship God right where you are! This is no time to wonder how you got where you are, it’s time to thank Him for taking you away from the normal, comfortable, easy. We’ve mistaken easy for spiritual but God has a hard time speaking to us in the easy. But when we’re stripped of our comfortable stuff we can hear Him better and thus receive His call without wondering which way to go. God is not ruining your life; He is converting you to be an adventurer for His cause.
God loves you and He’s for you! Reach for His hand and walk away with Him into the depths of the riches of His fellowship. No other place is so sweet as the wilds of the unknown with a Known God as you live boldly adventurous in the Light of His Magnificent call!
