You’re a Mess & Yet So Perfect

This weekend was another opportunity to decorate a birthday cake for family. Our oldest grandson turned 14 years old. He wanted a simple plain cake with white icing. Of course I had to do a little something to it so I added some blue piping and put his name on it. It was a neatly decorated cake that tasted so good.  The neat presentation didn’t just appear that way. No there was a mess first. Making the perfect cake is a messy endeavor. On the way to excellence is a lot of untidy work.  It’s amazing that messy ends up perfect.

Our lives are like a cake. It’s messy and untidy much of the time. But God is working in our lives to make us more beautiful than we could be on our own. In Christ we are perfected. The hurts, the troubles, the sorrows, the pains, the unbelievable moments added to the intercession of years all work together to make something beautiful out of our lives. Presented to God, in Christ, we are absolutely perfect.

Oh beloved, you’ve been worrying so much about presentation. You want everything perfect. But life is messy. Real life, even in Christ, can have its spilled moments, its huge cleanups and times you just want to sweep it all away.  It may be hard to realize, but God uses imperfection to remind us Who is Perfect in us. We can’t be all we want to be on our own. Life is more than the illusion of perfection. We all have hidden issues, troubled backgrounds, old wounds and messed up moments.

God wants you to know this morning that He loves you – imperfect, work in progress, spilled out you. He’s enthralled with your beauty even when you feel so ugly and messed up. He’s delighted to love you in your most unlovable moments. He’s with you  for the long run. He’s with you, beloved, because He knows what you are being made into – the image of His Son. We like to think we must come to God like we do people – all made up, fixed up, cleaned up and presentable. But God knows you precious one and He still loves you. He chose you and He meant it for eternity. He gathered you to Himself just as you were and still watches over you with unfailing faithfulness just as you are. He sees the real you and yet He knows the real you – you are beautiful, redeemed, perfected, anointed, blessed, honored and chosen.  He wants to loose you from your own attempts at perfection so that you can live as the perfected in Christ child you are! This realization, perfection in imperfection, is going to set you free from the applause of man, the accusations of the devil and your own need to be perfect! You are who you are and God says “perfect”!

God loves you and He’s for you! Rest your weary ever working head on His heart and listen as He speaks His love songs over you. Always remember you are loved just because you are you and you are being perfected just because of Christ. Live loved and accept yourself fully as you learn to live in the Light of God’s magnificent glory & grace!

Romans 15:17 Therefore in Christ Jesus I have found reason for boasting in things pertaining to God.

1 Corinthians 1:30 But by His doing you are in Christ Jesus, who became to us wisdom from God, and righteousness and sanctification, and redemption

Galatians 3:3 Are you so foolish? Having begun by the Spirit, are you now being perfected by the flesh?

2 Corinthians 3:18 But we all, with unveiled face, beholding as in a mirror the glory of the Lord, are being transformed into the same image from glory to glory, just as from the Lord, the Spirit.

About rebekahbeene

In a Women’s meeting in 1983, I went up for prayer and to see if God had “anything for me”. The woman of God who was praying for people spoke over my life. She said these words: “You will write books. You can go to the bank on it. Rivers of living water will flow from your belly…”
