It’s Nothing Personal (oh yes it is)
When you deal with people it gets interesting. It’s like you’re the juggler and they all want you to juggle in their favor. Everyone wants to be understood and find justification for their actions. When it comes to rights we want ours and yet we don’t want them to have any rights.
So let’s go to the Word and really make it personal:
But I say to you (put your name here) who hear [Me and pay attention to My words]: (You) Love [that is, unselfishly seek the best or higher good for] your enemies (insert their name here), (you) [make it a practice to] do good to those (insert their name) who hate you, (you) bless and show kindness to those (them) who curse you, (you) pray for those (their name) who mistreat you. Whoever (name them) strikes you on the cheek, offer him (their name) the other one also [simply ignore insignificant insults or losses and do not bother to retaliate—maintain your dignity].Whoever takes away your coat, do not withhold your shirt from him either. (You) give to everyone who asks of you. Whoever takes away what is yours, do not demand it back. (You) Treat (the one you are at odds with) others the same way you want them to treat you. If you [only] love those who love you, what credit is that to you? For even sinners love those who love them.
Oh beloved, God has several reminders here. He’s talking to His church (that’s you and me) and He’s giving instructions on how to deal with people, especially people who aren’t fun to deal with, who may be totally wrong, who may have hurt you, mocked you, angered you, rejected you. He’s also reminding us (you AND me) that even lost people love one another.
God we come to You today and we relinquish our rights to make anything personal except to love and forgive. Take away our hurts and our rights to withhold anything from anyone and give us instead the Ministry of Reconciliation. Thank you for Loving us when we were unloveable and remind us that without you we remain unloveable. Thank you for healing our hearts and restoring our souls. In the Mighty Name of Jesus, Amen!
God loves you (and them) and He’s for you (and them) and that’s all that matters as you live and breathe the Glorious love of God everywhere you go!
