You’re No Old Dead Christmas Tree

Our Christmas tree started out dark green and lush. It’s dead now. Seriously, it’s light green/brown. And you can see clear through it to the other side. What started out verdant and beautiful is now, well, ready for the trash pile. Although we watered it regularly at some point it began to reject taking in the liquid necessary to keep it going. By the time we drag it out the front door it will leave a trail of needles from the house to the truck and beyond. There’s no replanting, repositioning or restoring of this tree. Nice as it was it’s done for.

Aren’t we glad life in Christ is more than Christmas? Aren’t you glad that this life of being a living breathing believer goes on beyond holidays or ceremonies or religious events? We were dead – in our trespasses and sins. But now we are alive! And this alive-ness goes on forever. We might get dry at times, but as long as we continue to take in the water of the Word, the living water, we will stay lush and verdant and pliable in the Master’s Hands. And if we forget where our sustenance comes from, we get so dry we just have to run back to the Father and ask to be refilled. He reminds us that His living water causes us to thirst no more!

Oh beloved, you may be feeling that your life is like that Christmas tree. Not worth keeping, shriveled and dry – losing ground like that evergreen loses needles. God wants you to know this morning that it’s not time to give up or pronounce yourself dead. It’s time to run to the Father and ask for a fresh infilling of Living Water! He won’t turn you away, He won’t say it’s too late, He won’t turn His back on you or remind you of all your mistakes, missteps and double dealings. He doesn’t rub your nose in your sins, He wipes your tears of contrition and gives you a brand new start! He takes what’s dead in your life and makes it live again. Not just live but thrive in the Power of the Holy Spirit! He doesn’t ask you where you’ve been all this time because while you were wandering in the dry places He was chasing you with Holy fervor – never content that one of His own should be lost in the wilderness of the desert places! Not matter your age you are not the sum of what’s behind you. You are full of expectancy of what lies before you! It’s a new day and you are freshly planted in the courts of the Lord, with the filling of the Holy Spirit and all the promises of your blessed Redeemer!

God loves you and He’s for you! He’s calling you back to His presence, back to fresh infilling and back to the truth about you – you are loved, adored, cherished, chosen, renewed, refreshed and positioned for anointing and appointing. Live fully alive, drink of the living water daily, let your life branch out fully as you live in the power of His Water of Life!

John 6:37 “All that the Father gives Me will come to Me, and the one who comes to Me I will certainly not cast out.

John 4:14 But those who drink the water I give will never be thirsty again. It becomes a fresh, bubbling spring within them, giving them eternal life.

Jeremiah 31:25 For I satisfy the weary ones and refresh everyone who languishes.

Psalm 1:3 They are like trees planted along the riverbank, bearing fruit each season. Their leaves never wither, and they prosper in all they do.

About rebekahbeene

In a Women’s meeting in 1983, I went up for prayer and to see if God had “anything for me”. The woman of God who was praying for people spoke over my life. She said these words: “You will write books. You can go to the bank on it. Rivers of living water will flow from your belly…”
