We watched our first Christmas movies last night. We watched the end of Jingle All the Way, a comedy where a man is trying desperately to get the prized toy of the season for his son. We then watched the animated version of Scrooge where the ghosts of Christmas past, present and future help straighten out the life of an old man who had fallen in love with his money. Finally we watched the beginning of Polar Express, a magnificent animation about a boy trying to regain his faith in Christmas.
We’ve all been there at some time. Juggling the stories with the message and trying to find reality that meets our needs in a real and purposeful way.
Oh beloved, it’s time to rejoice! Christmas is here and you aren’t obligated to achieve a thing to make it better, bigger or truer. You may be juggling your worries about your money – will it last, is it enough, can you pull Christmas off without spending it all? You may even be struggling to find regain your faith in God when all the world is in such a mess. But you aren’t moved by what you feel, what you see or what others think. You are moved by the Truth of the Gospel, the Reality of the Manger and the security of the Return of your King! In light of all you know that is True concerning your heavenly Father, it’s time to relax in His Presence and seek His face to make this the best Holy Day ever. He will grant you peace, joy and contentment right here and right now! They are gifts from the Lord to you, richly wrapped and given so freely!
God loves you and He’s for you! Remember who you are in Christ. Rest in who He is in you. Remember His Word about the birth, death and resurrection of His Son! Look at Christmas through the eyes of love and seek His face for the joy you need for everyday life. Live, don’t worry, fear or panic! Luke 2:10-11 But the angel said to them, “Do not be afraid; for behold, I bring you good news of great joy which will be for all the people; for today in the city of David there has been born for you a Savior, who is Christ the Lord.”
John 14:27 “I am leaving you with a gift–peace of mind and heart. And the peace I give is a gift the world cannot give. So don’t be troubled or afraid.”
