Throwback Thursday. I’m not sure how this got started, but on social media at least, Thursdays are designated to show a photo of you or your family from days gone by.  My favorite pictures to share are ones of Danny and me. We’ve come a long way. Although the pictures say we were much younger and all that, the truth is we’ve come a long way.  With the photos of yesteryear we could be reminded of how old we have become. But instead, God reminds us that we have grown in His knowledge, lived through messes, triumphed over the enemy and grown closer to Him and to one another. What shows in a throwback picture is just the people. What’s really there is something much more valuable.  Those of us who have lived with Christ and for Christ for many years know some wonderful things about this walk of faith. God never says “throwback” to us – He never throws us back to the wolves, He never reminds us of our past, and He never quits growing us in grace and knowledge of Him! Although your childhood or youthful pictures may remind people of your parent, the growth in Christ all these years reminds God that you are looking more and more like the Savior!

Oh beloved, isn’t it wonderful!  Aren’t you rejoicing? No matter what happens along the way, God is causing all things in your life to work together for your good!  If Christ is your Savior, then you are indeed called according to His purpose. You may have lived a rough life in the past, but now you live a life that is pleasing to the Lord. Every day you may feel a little older but God is renewing your strength daily! Even though you don’t look the same as you did a few years ago, God has not abandoned you, nor has He ever considered that. Even though your youth is not endless, His love for you is! Even though your mind may wander and not hold numbers and names like it used to, God’s thoughts about you are without limit!  Even when you feel your energy waning, you can find strength in the truth that God’s grace for you is boundless!  Whatever you see along the timeline of your life, the depths of despair or sorrow or rejection, God’s protection is always with you – it is unfathomable! Next time you look at a throwback picture of yourself, don’t despair. You’re in better hands than the most famous plastic surgeon and God gives all His gifts to you without a demand for payment!

God loves you and He’s for you!  He never throws back those He has called into His Presence. He never gives back those gifts of grace that He gives each one of us. He never regrets a thing as He looks at your life because His promises are airbrush over your life – making something beautiful out of the past, making something exciting about the present and making something to long for out of the future. Rejoice and remember every time you look back that God is with you – you cannot fail and He will not reject you ever!

2 Corinthians 5:17 Therefore if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creature; the old things passed away; behold, new things have come!

Isaiah 43:18 Forget the former things; do not dwell on the past.

I Chronicles 16:12 Remember His wonderful deeds which He has done, His marvels and the judgments from His mouth

Psalm 89:2 Your unfailing love will last forever. Your faithfulness is as enduring as the heavens.

Romans 11:36 For everything comes from Him and exists by His power and is intended for His glory. All glory to Him forever! Amen.

Psalm 92:12-13 The righteous will flourish like a palm tree, they will grow like a cedar of Lebanon; planted in the house of the LORD, they will flourish in the courts of our God.

About rebekahbeene

In a Women’s meeting in 1983, I went up for prayer and to see if God had “anything for me”. The woman of God who was praying for people spoke over my life. She said these words: “You will write books. You can go to the bank on it. Rivers of living water will flow from your belly…”
