Back when I was a girl I spent many days at Fun Forest swimming in the best pool I’ve ever known. It was huge, probably Olympic size at least! Anyway, I loved swimming in the deep end of that pool. It was work to swim down touching the bottom at 12 feet. It’s not natural to leave the surface for deeper waters. But there was such a sense of accomplishment and awe. The noises of the park were totally gone by the time you got about 8 feet down. Surfacing, all the laughter and hollering and splashing sounds returned. But down deep it was quiet and cool and tranquil. It was so worth it!
Oh beloved, are you longing for deeper waters of the Spirit? Have you been longing to try the depths of His love, His Word and His calling? It’s impossible in the natural to do much more than tread water and live on the surface. But in the Spirit and by His power you can go deeper. In fact, the very desire for those deeper waters is a gift from God – He is the one giving you the desire and calling for just that. Maybe you’re fearful of the deep. It seems like everyone is surface peddling. Will you lose friends? Will you feel out of place? Don’t worry.
As you learn to go deeper, others will receive their desire for the depths of God from watching you and seeing the joy you have! Heading for the depths blocks out the noise of life as you spend time with just you and the Lord. He gives tranquility and purpose in the depths, not in the shallows. There are things you will see – about yourself, about God, about life – as you plunge into those wonderful cool waters of the Spirit. Even your problems grow quieter and seem insignificant as you see them from God’s inner sanctuary. You will discover that you want to live there rather than in the worries, fears and longings of ordinary life. The depths of the Spirit are indeed extraordinary and oh so worth it! Even if you feel like you might drown, you will not for that is God’s will for you – to be lost in the depths of His glory and grace!
God loves you and He’s for you! The depths of His purpose for you is calling you out of shallow living and into His destiny. As you exchange the natural for the supernatural, you will gain new insight for living and you will begin to understand why things happen to you and how God is orchestrating your life, even in the hard places, for your good and His glory! Rejoice in the desire and rest in the calling for you are going to live in the profounder knowledge of God as you live in the depths of His wonderful plan!
