Memorial Day has been celebrated in America since the 1800’s. Set aside to honor the soldiers who gave their lives in the line of duty, most if not all of us have someone in our family to remember for that great sacrifice. This morning I am honored to remember the great grandfather, father, brother, cousins and others who became soldiers and pledged allegiance to this great country to defend it at all costs. One cousin in particular lost his life as a pilot during World War II and his remains have never been found. All of my aunt’s life she never forgot her son, nor did she ever give up hope that he might return home one day. One memorial day speech from the past says it well at the end, “Remember those that gave their lives, so that we may continue to live in freedom as spelled out in the Constitution of the United States and the Declaration of Independence . . . Lest we forget.”
I’m so thankful as well that I have a Book of Remembrance that I can celebrate every day by reading from God’s Word. The accounts of great sacrifices made by people of God bless my heart and give me great courage in this life. Every page is a commemorative to Christ, who gave His life for us. But we are blessed to read about living in the light of a Risen Savior, who made that ultimate sacrifice and rose again so that we can walk in newness of life. We will do well to remember just what a great sacrifice Christ made for us as we continue to live in His Freedom as spelled out in the Book of Life!
Oh beloved, God wants you to know this morning that you are alive! And that your life matters to God. In the heavenlies the angels are rejoicing over your salvation. In the heavenlies you are being watched over and guarded by a heavenly host. In Christ, you are bought with a price and you can live to honor Christ. Each morning when you read the Word you are celebrating the Resurrection and the Life. The Wonderful Words of Life are your encouragement and help in times of need. They are your necessary bread and water for gathering strength and going the distance as you live for Him alone! Everything you will ever need is found in the pages of the Word, breathed into existence by God Himself. All you have need of God has provided. Even in the sacrifice of Christ, you have been given the opportunity to live for Him always. Even when you have moments of despair and grief, you will always find relief at the foot of the cross. You are called to live a valiant life of worship to the King and service to Him as well. He will provide, protect, defend and strengthen you for every battle you face, and you can be assured of ultimate victory no matter what. Because of Christ’s great sacrifice, one no one else has ever made in all the universe, you can know that you are enabled, through Holy Spirit Power to live strong and perform amazing deeds for Him! You can say no to depression and anxiety and say yes to power and wisdom! You can say no to doubt and say yes to faith! You can fight the enemy of your soul with the Word of God which is your only weapon, yet oh so enough! You are equipped for everything in Christ!
God loves you and He’s for you. Let us pledge renewed allegiance to Him this morning! Let us Honor Him with our very lives as we live strong and mighty in Spirit and Truth! What better way to honor our Risen Lord than to live for His glory alone! Thank Him this morning for His unspeakable gift and live in the Light of His Glory and Grace!
