Who Are You Wrestling With?

Untitled 1

While watching our oldest granddaughter play basketball a couple of years ago, I saw that the trick of the game was to possess the ball. When players from opposing teams get their hands on the ball together, they literally fight for possession. They may even fall on the court, both team members trying to hang onto the ball long enough for the ref to say it’s theirs. So too I see our younger grandchildren wrestling for toys and snacks and sometimes even wrestling over a bottle of water. Either way control is important and fought heartily for. Even in the world, there’s a quote that “possession is 9/10ths of the law” meaning that authority over things is easier to maintain if one has possession of something.

God speaks to my heart. Did you know that for believers God has ownership of everything? He is in possession of our past – and it is thrown into the deepest sea of forgetfulness. He is in possession of our present – and it is secure and He has authority over everything. He possesses our future as well. He already knows what is ahead. Therefore we can relax and let Him take us into the future as winners and overcomers, victorious all the days of our lives. What messes up our walk is when we try to take possession of things that God is Sovereign over. We literally wrestle with God to take back control of what He has promised to do through us, with us and for us.

Oh beloved, what are you wrestling with this morning? Unanswered prayer? Unseen help from God? Maybe you have begun to think you should DO something to help God out? God wants you to know this morning that it’s time to rethink your position. Wrestling constantly will never make you a winner. Trusting in His Sovereignty will keep you from fighting and demanding and getting frustrated in life. It’s not your call to be independent of God. You don’t have to create your own authority and dominance over life or people or situations. God speaks in love to your heart and mine: It’s time to stop wrestling and struggling to work things out in the flesh. This puts you in a no win situation. Wrestling with God will wear you out and you will find nothing you need when you try to fix things for yourself. Wrestling with God gives the enemy an opportunity to speak lies into your heart. Can God do this? Will God fix it? Does God care? When has He really helped you? The lying liar slips into the game and before you know it you’re agreeing with the wrong team!

God loves you and He’s for you. Let Him do what only He can do! He knew you before the foundation of the world, He knows when your footing is shaky and He’s already declared you a winner when the match of your life is over. Trust Him now. Call on the Holy Spirit to empower you to rest in God’s providential care. Pray without ceasing. Believe God. Winner is your name and Sovereign is God’s name – together that’s an unbeatable team. You always win when you walk under His Authority as God takes care of every situation you encounter.  Run to Him this morning and thank Him for taking care of yesterday, today and all your tomorrows. Rejoice in His Truth as you live in the strength of His Power and Love.

About rebekahbeene

In a Women’s meeting in 1983, I went up for prayer and to see if God had “anything for me”. The woman of God who was praying for people spoke over my life. She said these words: “You will write books. You can go to the bank on it. Rivers of living water will flow from your belly…”
