I’ve become friends with several writers through author and book pages. The fiction writers who are printed go through a series of re-writes for their publisher. It is accepted in writer’s circles that some never rewrite, but those who manage to produce something. Professionals say a lack of novel edits underscores a writer’s inefficiency and lack of experience because not even established writers can write a perfect story in the first draft.
When it comes to our story God writes it perfectly and the first draft is His best work on our behalf. He doesn’t need our editing or our throwing away of entire chapters. He is the AUTHOR of our faith! Who could be more perfect at writing the story of our life than the LORD of heaven and earth? Our story is not being told by an enemy – they would get it oh so wrong. They would see every mistake as a chance to call us failure. They would see every weak moment as a chance to write in useless. No! The LORD is our greatest champion for our faith. He uses every nuance and every crossroads and makes a magnificent novel of our life! He is the Hero of our story. God owns your story through Christ’s sacrifice on the Cross and resurrection power. And because of this our stories are destined to be full of glory and honor to the King of Kings! You might say, although our life has had its hard places and weak moments, God writes in plot twists and makes it all turn out for our good and His glory! If we wrote it we would see failure, dishonor, rejection, pain and more. But God sees winner, overcomer, redeemed, blessed and oh so much more!
Oh beloved, you don’t have to rewrite your own story. You can’t! Each chapter of your life, good and bad, is written in love. God is perfecting your life so you don’t have to. You don’t have to make things happen, you don’t have to make it look good, you don’t have to hide the stories that were hard or dry or difficult. Because the Same Lord who is the Author of your life is also the Perfector of it! He’s writing this love story of your life and in heaven it’s applauded! The heavenly host rejoice each time you overcome obstacles to your life. Christ is interceding in heaven and God is holding your hand always. You are a valiant warrior worshiper in this story of you. You don’t have to be a perfectionist who hates every rough draft because God is perfecting you! You are living for His glory alone. And He promises to turn all things to work together for your good! Your story is a testimony to the world that God is faithful and His compassion is forever.
God loves you and He’s for you! He’s taking the story of you and making it a magnificent novel of glory and grace – all for love! You don’t have to add a thing. Salvation is free, justification is in Christ, redemption is ongoing and glorification is your final chapter! It’s time to rest in God and trust Him. You’re not the one making things happen so you can rejoice in every plot twist and turn as you live in the Light of His glory and grace!
