At work I have a list of the records we have to keep in the files and how long we have to keep them. It’s one of my jobs to go through the files and throw out those records according to the file guide. If I keep the records longer than I need to the files get so full I can’t find what I really need. The papers begin to crowd out the opportunity to put the newer things in. The file drawers start looking messy. It’s harder to find what is current as well. Weed them out and I don’t have to wonder what’s relevant and what’s not.
When God forgives us He weeds everything out. He throws our sins away as far as the east is from the west. He doesn’t remember them anymore. As believers we have a clean set of files full of promise and hope and renewal. We’ve been redeemed from having to look into the files of our former life.
Oh beloved, God has given you a new start! Don’t you think it’s time to quit replaying the old troubles over and over? Throw out what’s not of God. Trust God to leave what’s important and take what’s needful. He loves you. You cannot pay for your own mistakes, you cannot remove your own past regrets, and you sure can’t throw out your future fears all on your own. The flesh profits nothing. But by the Spirit you can live forgiven, redeemed and refreshed. The enemy of your soul might try to remind you of things that have been thrown out. Don’t let Him. Apply the file guide of the Word of God to the situation. The enemy cannot stand where the Word of God is declared. When he tries to show you old files, remind Him that your sins are blotted out and they are under the blood of the lamb, thrown into the sea of forgiveness and they are unable to be retrieved. So too remind yourself that you are the righteousness of Christ – He has made all things new for you.
God loves you and He’s for you. Run to the Word this morning and read: God has given you a clean heart. God has not given you a spirit of fear but of power and of and a sound mind! Rejoice in the true files you have access to – love, joy and peace in the Holy Spirit. You’ve been redeemed from the files of sin and death to live a life that is full of promise and power and praise! You belong to the LORD and His plans for you are good and perfect and acceptable. Live in the Light of His glorious Word and watch as He grants you all His best for a life of godliness all the days of your life!
