Gardening Rules and Life Rules Lead to Blessed Harvest

A sunny Monday is the best time to get calls about gardens, pastures and lawns in my office. Yesterday was one of those days. One man called wanting to know if it was too late to put out a weed killer. Actually even though the grass may look dormant, if there’s the least bit of green coming through it might do more damage than good. One lady called and she really wanted me to tell her it was okay to put out her Boston ferns. The answer to putting houseplants outdoors is “after last chance of frost” which for our area is mid usually mid-April. They were disappointed, but both had choices to make. They decided to play it safe by going by the rules.

The questions reminded me of questions we often have for God. When faced with the facts of the Word we often wonder if we can fudge a little. “Are you sure?” We ask Him. Or we try to rationalize our behavior. Maybe it won’t hurt THIS time. We get hurt, we get frustrated, and then we get in a hurry. We want to know what God thinks as long as it’s what we think. We actually want Him to line up with our plans. But God wants to bless us, so He asks us to line up with His plans.

Oh beloved, God loves you. He knows every problem, situation and storm. he sees the weather and He is master of the wind and the sea. Trust in His loving care. For now is the time to learn to follow God’s plans. Do it God’s way now, before the storms come and temperatures fall. Before the love wanes and the opportunities look better on the other side of the fence. Be very careful of letting yourself say “God doesn’t really care” or “God left me alone to…” The Word says that God is with us WHEREVER we go. He won’t lead us into temptation, but our own hopes and dreams and frustrations might send us right there. And the enemy is oh too ready to agree with false declarations about the Lord. Let yourself have time between the offense and the response. Give yourself room to heal from hurts before you go looking for love. Give time for God to work things out for your good and His glory. There is nothing more beautiful than a manicured, well-kept lawn in the summer. And there’s nothing more beautiful than a life that is kept safe and beautiful by the Lord.

God loves you and He is for you. You are set apart for His plans. You are redeemed for His glory. You are His own beloved and His desires are rich and full and free for you. Relax and look into His Word for your final answer. Don’t deal with life from the flesh, you’ll own grow weeds and sorrow. Deal with everything by the Word of God and watch as you see new life growing out of last year’s sorrows. You’ll never have to worry about what will happen to your life because you live in the Light of His Glorious Word!

Psalm 119:59 I pondered the direction of my life, and I turned to follow Your laws.

Lamentations 3:40 Instead, let us test and examine our ways. Let us turn back to the LORD.

Psalm 119:1 Joyful are people of integrity, who follow the instructions of the LORD.

I Corinthians 10:13 No temptation has overtaken you but such as is common to man; and God is faithful, who will not allow you to be tempted beyond what you are able, but with the temptation will provide the way of escape also, so that you will be able to endure it.

Proverbs 8:32 “Now therefore, O sons, listen to me, For blessed are they who keep My ways.

2 Thessalonians 2:16-17 Now may our Lord Jesus Christ Himself and God our Father, who has loved us and given us eternal comfort and good hope by grace, comfort and strengthen your hearts in every good work and word.

About rebekahbeene

In a Women’s meeting in 1983, I went up for prayer and to see if God had “anything for me”. The woman of God who was praying for people spoke over my life. She said these words: “You will write books. You can go to the bank on it. Rivers of living water will flow from your belly…”
