Most of us are beginning to develop web feet in our part of the country. With all the snow and ice, followed by what seems like un-ending rain, roads are washing away and streets and interstates alike have huge potholes. Not to mention that, even though it’s not freezing weather anymore, we now have to stay inside because of all the rain. The promise of even a harder downpour throughout the day makes for a depressed atmosphere. My daughter sent a picture of the large drain near her kids’ school. It was no longer draining; it looked like a gushing fountain! Dangers from flooded roads must be dealt with. It’s not safe to drive into water. Just a few inches of water can sweep someone off their feet.
Oh beloved you may be feeling the effects of a storm you had no desire to weather. At first just a trickle of trouble came and you held your ground. Now you have tried to keep standing as the waters rise, but you’re about to be swept away in fear and anxiety, uncertainty and doubt. In the sun drenched days of happiness you could see God’s favor. But now the floods have come and you wonder where God is in all of this? What can you do about it? Wait it out. What about the feelings you have? Don’t give into them. There is an enemy and he doesn’t just want to trouble your life, he wants to wash away your faith. He doesn’t intend to give you trouble, he intends to flood your heart with such fear that you will forget the safety rules: read the Word, believe the Word, live the Word. But God is with you! Focusing on the dangers and the enemy will only raise the floods higher. Focusing on God will drain away the danger and give you fresh outlook as you focus on the SON in spite of the rain.
God loves you and He’s for you. How do I know? Because the Word says so! The momentary weather is only going to last so long. The sun will return. God’s Word won’t go away in the flood waters. You can trust God no matter what. You can rely on your Savior to get you through, just like He saved your soul. You can hang onto Holy Spirit who is within you. You are building your life on Solid Rock!
Hebrews 4:16 Let us therefore come boldly to the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy and find grace to help in time of need.
1 Timothy 1:14 And the grace of our Lord was exceedingly abundant, with faith and love which are in Christ Jesus.
Psalm 27:5 For in the day of trouble He will conceal me in His tabernacle; In the secret place of His tent He will hide me; He will lift me up on a rock.
Isaiah 43:1-2 But now, O Jacob, listen to the Lord who created you. O Israel, the one who formed you says, “Do not be afraid, for I have ransomed you. I have called you by name; you are mine. When you go through deep waters, I will be with you. When you go through rivers of difficulty, you will not drown. When you walk through the fire of oppression, you will not be burned up; the flames will not consume you.
Matthew 7:24-25 Anyone who listens to My teaching and follows it is wise, like a person who builds a house on solid rock. Though the rain comes in torrents and the floodwaters rise and the winds beat against that house, it won’t collapse because it is built on bedrock.
