Start!

As we traveled through Louisiana I spotted a water tower with the word START written on it. In all our travels there are those towns with unusual names. But Start? The word just jumped out at me. Louis Lamour used the word in one of his famous quotes, “Start writing, no matter what. The water does not flow until the faucet is turned on.”

It’s though God was speaking to me. “Start!” It’s time for you to start! God has spoken something into your heart and you’ve been saying “one of these days”. God says today is the day. Start! Start somewhere. He’s given you a dream, He’s poured out a vision to you. It’s too big for you. It’s beyond your abilities. It’s wilder than wild. You may be waiting for the wherewithal to do what God is calling you to do. But as Louis says the water doesn’t flow until the faucet is turned on. Everything has a start to it. From driving the car to writing a novel, you have to start somewhere. The fearful part of any endeavor is the start. And God wants you to know it’s time to start!

Oh beloved, God is with you. From the start, He will guide you, direct you, watch over you and keep you safe. He doesn’t wait until you need Him to start caring for you. As He pours His life into your life, you can start breathing a sigh of relief. He is with you for the long haul. It’s His dream, it’s His vision. He’s birthing it through you, He chose you to start it for Him. So all you have to do is start. I could give you ideas of what God might have spoken into your lives, but this morning He says don’t give one example. He says the reader already knows what I AM speaking into their lives. They already have the idea in their heart of what I want them to start. God promises that if we start doing what He’s called us to do, He will be with you, He will give you courage, He will strengthen you and He will accomplish His plan. All you have to do is start.

If God hasn’t given you a dream or vision, yet, start! Start seeking His face, start asking Him what your purpose is, start reminding Him that your life is His to do whatever He wants with it. Start praying for wisdom and discernment to hear His voice speak to you. Start counting on God. Start planning to hear. Start seeking His face and repeating the request. Start!

God loves you and He’s for you. That’s enough to know that God has a plan for your life. Write down the things you feel God is speaking to you and then start. What a beautiful word. Just as the horses are let out of the starting gate, God wants to turn you loose to fulfill His will. God says rivers of living water will flow from your belly as you start living the life God called you to live! Rejoice in the call, start the endeavor, begin to rely on God and watch! He will work through you for your good and His glory as you start living in the light of His glory and grace!

Job 8:7 And though you started with little, you will end with much.

Genesis 32:1 As Jacob started on his way again, angels of God came to meet him.

Philippians 1:6 For I am confident of this very thing, that He who began a good work in you will perfect it until the day of Christ Jesus.

Philippians 2:13 for it is God who works in you to will and to act in order to fulfill His good purpose. NIV

Hebrews 13:20 Now the God of peace, who brought up from the dead the great Shepherd of the sheep through the blood of the eternal covenant, even Jesus our Lord, equip you in every good thing to do His will, working in us that which is pleasing in His sight, through Jesus Christ, to whom be the glory forever and ever. Amen.

About rebekahbeene

In a Women’s meeting in 1983, I went up for prayer and to see if God had “anything for me”. The woman of God who was praying for people spoke over my life. She said these words: “You will write books. You can go to the bank on it. Rivers of living water will flow from your belly…”
