Saturday we heard so many sirens near our house. Not only were the sirens going, helicopters were flying out from our hospital with precious cargo to find healing for their injuries and pain. I don’t enjoy these noises, but I do know to pray for whoever it is. I can pray and let it go. None of these things are in my hands anyway. If I concentrate on the sirens, I might find myself worrying about things outside my scope of responsibility. Although I cannot fix everything I hear about, God can. He is with each wale of the siren and each turn of the helicopter blades.
Oh beloved, are you listening for the bad stuff? Are you worrying and fretting over the world’s noise? Have you been contemplating when it might happen to you or someone you love? Borrowing trouble has no merit for the believer. Life is tough. Times are hard. But to pre-plan disaster is a waste of time and depression is sure to follow. You may think if you plan for the worst things can only get better. If you believe every sordid headline of doom and disaster you will only feel the effects of doom and disaster. God knows what you’ve been through. He understands the disappointments you incurred at the hands of another, even someone you loved and trusted. But His plans for you are excellent and praise worthy and joyful. There will be hard times, there will be rough spots, there will be things that happen that make no sense. But God is a Redeemer of it all. He makes sense out of senselessness and power out of weakness and faith out of those times that you feel very doubtful He will come through. Yes, you can be informed with the news and headlines and information, but don’t let it deform you into being full of worry, fear and distrust. Has God Himself not promised, through Christ your Savior, to see you all the way to heaven? Has He not said that even if you go through hardships and dangers that you will come out victorious? Is earth your reward? If it is, then you will have to guard all that you have in the natural constantly. If heaven is your reward, then the guardianship of all here is in the Lord’s hands. And that’s where you find peace, real and lasting tranquility of heart and mind.
God loves you and He’s for you. Keep that in mind every time a disastrous word comes your way. His peace will guard your heart and mind in Christ Jesus as you contemplate the promises He gives you and the hope of heaven. Live secure in God’s Word, instead of the disastrous plans of the enemy, and you will walk triumphantly in the Light of God’s Glory and Grace!
Psalm 27:1 The Lord is my Light and my Salvation—whom shall I fear or dread? The Lord is the Refuge and Stronghold of my life—of whom shall I be afraid? Amplified
2 Timothy 1:7 For God did not give us a spirit of timidity (of cowardice, of craven and cringing and fawning fear), but [He has given us a spirit] of power and of love and of calm and well-balanced mind and discipline and self-control. Amplified
Psalm 89:8 O LORD God of Heaven’s Armies! Where is there anyone as mighty as you, O LORD? You are entirely faithful.
Philippians 4:6-7 Don’t worry about anything; instead, pray about everything. Tell God what you need, and thank him for all he has done. Then you will experience God’s peace, which exceeds anything we can understand. His peace will guard your hearts and minds as you live in Christ Jesus.
Proverbs 4:23 Above all else, guard your heart, for everything you do flows from it. NIV
