How the West Was Won is probably my favorite movie of all time. Although I’ve watched it at least a dozen times over the years, it still draws me in and captivates my heart. The strength of the pioneers of old and their willingness to face dangers, fears and hardships for the opportunity to forge new territories is amazing. When you analyze the movie and look to see the motivating factor for all the characters through the years of their lives you see that the main motivator is love. The love of new country not seen before, the love of travel and most of all the love of people for one another. What greater motivator is there than love?
You’ve been through a lot. Pioneers having nothing on you. You forged a trail, established a home, planned a life and more. You have loved fiercely and walked through your own dangers, fears and hardships. Now you feel that things have changed. You feel you can no longer move forward in life. You’re stuck in depression, disappointment and dejection. Someone made an off handed comment and you believed it. You’ve met up with your age and realize there’s less time left to plan a future than you imagined. Maybe someone left you in the dust along the trail – rejection speaks harshly that you’re not worth the trip, or you’re no longer worthy to go forward.
Oh beloved, it’s time to take up the mantel of the Lord Jesus Christ! Weak though you may feel, ostracized, and done for, God is your reason for moving on! There may be little strength left in your mind or body, but God resides in your heart and He says let’s go! Breathing this morning means that God still has a plan for your life. And God’s plans are always moving forward. It doesn’t matter if that dream hasn’t been accomplished yet or that prayer hasn’t been answered up till now. You are still walking in God’s favor and the same Spirit that raised Christ from the deal is here this morning to quicken you and set you on high for the next leg of the journey of faith. You are a pioneer! A pioneer of God’s love and faithfulness! You wear the banner of Redeemed and the saga of your life isn’t fulfilled yet. Rejoice as you seek God’s face for renewal. Worship as you hear Him urge you on. Praise Him as you walk as a pioneer of the faith into lands yet to be claimed for the Gospel.
God loves you and He’s for you! That’s all that matters. The ones who want to travel with you will. The ones who have walked away will walk away again and again. Strength comes from the Lord and as you keep your eyes on Jesus you will walk triumphantly and discover new territory for the Lord, all the days of your life!
Jeremiah 29:11 For I know the plans I have for you,” says the Lord. “They are plans for good and not for disaster, to give you a future and a hope.”
Psalm 71:6 Yes, You have been with me from birth; from my mother’s womb You have cared for me. No wonder I am always praising You!
Genesis 35:3 We are now going to Bethel, where I will build an altar to the God who answered my prayers when I was in distress. He has been with me wherever I have gone.
Isaiah 49:10 They will neither hunger nor thirst, nor will the desert heat or the sun beat down on them. He who has compassion on them will guide them and lead them beside springs of water.
Psalm 143:10 Teach me to do Your will, For You are my God; Let Your good Spirit lead me on level ground.
