There was a nearly 3 hour wait as we had our oil changed. We decided to go to the large waiting room and read magazines and drink coffee. Two women sat directly across from us and they started a conversation with one another that lasted almost that long. The entire time they talked they continually made references to God’s will, the grace of God and the power of the Lord. Normally I’m in on a conversation like that, but I just listened. I observed. They both had extreme situations occur in their lives. One had a preemie child like our Stella, the other had a brain bleed somewhat like my brother’s last year. Not one time in all the conversation of all the things they’d been through did I hear hate, animosity, revenge or any harsh word. I just kept hearing over and over from both women what an awesome God they served. How much He loved them both and how He was so faithful to get them through all the things they had faced.
At one point the car attendant came to one of the ladies and told her that the drain plug had stripped and they might need to get a new oil pan. It would cost over $400.00. It was that woman’s mother’s car and the mother had taken it elsewhere for an oil change. She told the attendant to do whatever they had to do. As the attendant walked away she said, “after what all I’ve been through and seen God do, what is a stripped drain plug?” They both smiled warmly at one another in agreement and continued to talk about life and the Lord. Before long they were both gone and the moment of God’s glory in the waiting room dispersed as their waiting was over.
Oh beloved, in the waiting rooms of life God is with you! As faithful as He was to these two strangers, He is just that faithful to you. Look back at other times you were in a hard place. Didn’t God see you through then? Hasn’t He been with you all along? Of course He has! You could not be where you are today if God hadn’t gotten you here. In the waiting room you have a choice. You can curse the trials, frustrate yourself with the wait or you can attempt to take matters into your own hands. But waiting is a process. You’re in line for God to do His work, in His way, in His timing. While waiting, you are on standby to show forth the praises of God. Just as those two women had no idea who they’d meet and what God had in mind, even in the waiting room, they both gave God the glory. They weren’t in church, they weren’t in Bible study, they were in the waiting room! And yet God produced glory and flooded their hearts and minds – they laughed and smile a LOT! It also flooded the heart of this woman observing. Believe me, I wanted to enter in, but God kept saying watch and observe.
God loves you precious, precious believer, even in the waiting rooms of life! He’s for you as you wait things out. Wait in prayer. Wait in the Word. Wait in patience. Share the glory of God with anyone and everyone while you are waiting. You know God is with you. And so you know He will get you through. The wait may not feel productive just now, but at the right time you will see the absolute priceless worth of the waiting. Rejoice and watch as God creates His own magnificent glory in your life right before watching eyes of strangers and friends wherever you are. The waiting room isn’t your final destination, but it is the place where your life is on display for the glory of the Risen King!
Psalm 30:20-22 Our inner selves wait [earnestly] for the Lord; He is our Help and our Shield. For in Him does our heart rejoice, because we have trusted (relied on and been confident) in His holy name. Let Your mercy and loving-kindness, O Lord, be upon us, in proportion to our waiting and hoping for You. AMP
