We have loads of push a button Christmas toys. They all sing loud and long! Those buttons pushed over and over by kiddos can get a little overdone. But there is one small toy when you press its tummy it sings ever so lightly. You have to listen to get the tune and words. But the gentleness of its message is so soothing. It makes you just want to hug it and press that tummy again and again. If there’s a crowd the tune will be totally missed. Lots of “shhhh” and “quiet” said as one child or another tries to listen in.

Life can be loud and noisy. The things of this world cry out for attention. It gets overdone at times, trying to meet the wants of the world.  For some reason the world’s call is easily heard. If we’re not careful we won’t hear God’s call among the din of everyday living. Pretty soon, we might find ourselves so busy with “busy-ness” that we will miss the voice of the Father altogether. Even good things can get us distracted from God’s things. Eventually we find ourselves worn out, tired of the rat race and searching for peace anywhere we can find it. Life can get dull and monotonous, even at Christmastime.  We hear all the noise, but we want something else.  Our hearts must have more than just stuff and lights and action.  We need a change.

Oh beloved, one word from God can change your life forever.  Listen for that still small voice. Cultivate it. Rejoice over it. Respond to it. God wants to speak into your life. And everything He says is gentle and loving and soft. It’s always easy to respond to Him. If you’re hearing a harsh or unforgiving, unloving voice, it’s not God. If you’re hearing more about going and doing than resting and listening, you’ll find yourself rattled and scattered. God knows every single thing you have to accomplish. He knows all the demands that everyone has placed on you, including yourself.  He understands the times are hard, the winds of change are whirling around you. He already knows the trauma you face, the hurts you carry and the way you feel about your life, your family, your job and especially how you feel about yourself. He wants you to come away with Him and sit a spell. Each day. This is when you get your restoration power. This is when He speaks His love songs over you and gives you His plan for your life. His way is the way of blessings, honor and freedom. He will change things, but mostly His word, His touch will change you from the inside out. And that, beloved, is what makes CHRISTmas last forever.

God loves you – right where you are right now just as you are. And He’s for you – desiring relationship over duty. Always remember that His still small voice – that Word from Him is what changes everything. You deserve to have the best and God has it for you. His love and His care are only the beginning of a life filled with the joy of the season every single day of your life!

About rebekahbeene
