Okay, so the tree’s up at our house. And there’s a hole in it at the side. A pretty good one. I have a choice to focus on the hole in the tree or fill it with something. I’ve got the perfect nativity to put right there. It will remind us of what this season is all about. As long as the word Christmas begins with CHRIST I will celebrate Him.
In all the preparation and pomp of the season it’s easy to forget Who we are celebrating. The stuff of the holiday won’t make us feel warm and cozy inside. It sure won’t keep us on those days when we feel alone or lonely or we find ourselves having done wrong or been done wrong to. Many of us find huge holes especially this time of year. People try to fill that hole with many things, even things that will only hurt them or make things worse.
Oh beloved, today is such a special day for you! You get to make a Christmas choice – do you focus on the holes in your life or are you going to fill it with the Christ Himself? One way will lead to more sorrow and taunts from your own flesh and from the enemy. But fill that hole with Christ and you will know instantly that the burden is lightened and the road ahead is smoother. You can’t change or undo the regrets. You can’t remove all reminders of the past mistakes. You can’t will yourself to have no fears. But you can fill each hole with the SAVIOR. He completely fills the voids with all that He is for you. He’s your security, your healer, your vindicator, your advocate, your life, your reason, your love and your future.
God loves you and He’s for you. Celebrate that generous, rich, infallible, never ending, encouraging, fulfilling love of Christ daily this season and fill that hole with praise, worship and adoration. And then watch as you grow closer to the Lord and begin to see yourself in the light of His Glory and Grace, and those holes grow smaller and smaller in your heart.
