Thanksgiving was great! My brother and his whole family were together at our house, along with my family as well. A mini family reunion if you will. Danny fried turkey and we had all the trimmings. Now all that is left are memories and leftovers. As I spied the turkey carcass I couldn’t help but think that, even though it was so tasty at the time, it’s just a shell of what it once was. The holiday is just a shell as well. Good memories or bad, holidays come and go. The excitement gives way to the mess of clean up and discarding what is no longer needed. Memories get stored away and life goes back to normal.
God spoke to my heart: The turkey is just a carcass now but life in Christ is still full and fresh.
How is your life in Christ? Are you finding fulfillment in Him beyond the holiday rush and preparation? Did you feel worthy and loved and happy on Thanksgiving only to find that this morning is not so great? You may have put lots of hope in the day only to find that disappointment, discouragement, unhappy memories and unfulfilled plans are all that remains. Your everyday life just doesn’t measure up, it’s a carcass of sorts – no fullness and freshness are there – only a shell of what you could be experiencing.
Oh beloved, it’s time to go back to the Book – the Lord’s Word and remind yourself of who you are and what normal life really is. For the believer it’s joy in the mundane, peace in the chaos, love in the rejection and faithfulness in the night seasons. Your experience with earthly events is a proving ground for His faithfulness. Did you feel His presence on the big day? Do you feel His presence now? He’s with you always. He’s faithful to you when you get busy and forget about Him. He’s watching over you as you work feverishly to prepare and as you sit back and wonder where all the fun went. Don’t let the carcasses of life become your signature dish. Rather let God’s heart show forth – rich and full and plentiful. He will you know. He is your reason for living and your reason for celebrating life itself. He will take your disappointments and turn them into new life. He will restore what has been taken from you and give you great joy. He will take your loneliness and fashion it into worship. He can make all things new.
God loves you and He’s for you. That heart of thanksgiving that comes on the day can remain and bloom and blossom and increase in your life. It’s His desire and it’s your way to not just survive the holidays but thrive! Give it all to Him and watch as He gives you a merry heart and a fresh outlook every single day of your life.
I Peter 1:8 You love Him even though you have never seen Him. Though you do not see Him now, you trust Him; and you rejoice with a glorious, inexpressible joy.

Romans 12:11-12 Never be lacking in zeal, but keep your spiritual fervor, serving the Lord. Rejoice in our confident hope. Be patient in trouble, and keep on praying.
2 Thessalonians 3:16 Now may the Lord of peace Himself give you His peace at all times and in every situation. The Lord be with you all.
