The Vows Go Unbroken

As I listened to our wedding song from 1973, I was again amazed. The intertwining of God’s Word and our marriage was so obvious, even before we were giving Him first place. He was there. “Rest assured this Troubadour is acting on your part” goes the lyrics, referring to the Lord who presides over the covenant of marriage. Our invitation had a Scripture on the front. We took communion together. We vowed the vows and meant them. We have kept them.

Are we the ones to say “we did it!”? Are we to take credit for all these 41 years of wedded bliss? Did we work hard enough to garner God’s blessings all these years?

If you ask me I think God was in it from before the foundation of the world. Just as He has been in your life, making you what you cannot make yourself. Giving you a life you could not work enough for. Granting you from HIS riches all the things that money can and cannot buy. It’s all Him. We have done our part, but even that commitment has come from the fountain of His rich and everlasting Love.

Oh beloved, whether you are celebrating a marriage or mourning a loss, God is your Troubadour. He is singing over you with Joy. He is delighting in you. He has made rich and honorable vows for your life. Before the foundation of the world God called you. Before anyone alive heard it. God heard Himself speak it. God’s Word is settled in heaven. God’s call is secure. His vows will remain unbroken for He is bound by His own Words and HE loves you more than life itself. The circumstances of your present days are not the sum and total of your life. There may be rough times now, but God is working through them for you. Cling to Him even more than anyone else. He is your reason for living and He is acting on your part – working things out so that your life will be blessed and you will be safe. Renewal, regeneration, reinforcement, restoration is coming. No need to fear for the LORD Himself is with you.

God loves you and He’s for you. Won’t you take a moment this morning to bask in His love, rejoice in His presence and honor His commitment to you? What wondrous love is this that God has called you out of the darkness and into His marvelous life! You will have loves in your life but nothing compares to the love of God, through Christ, that will watch over you, guard you, guide you and keep you all the days of your life!

Zephaniah 3:17 For the Lord your God is living among you. He is a mighty savior. He will take delight in you with gladness. With his love, He will calm all your fears. He will rejoice over you with joyful songs.”

I John 4:17 We know how much God loves us, and we have put our trust in His love. God is love, and all who live in love live in God, and God lives in them.

John 15:9 I have loved you even as the Father has loved me. Remain in My love.

Psalm 27:8 My heart has heard you say, “Come and talk with me.” And my heart responds, “LORD, I am coming.”

Ephesians 1:11 Furthermore, because we are united with Christ, we have received an inheritance from God, for He chose us in advance, and He makes everything work out according to His plan.

About rebekahbeene

In a Women’s meeting in 1983, I went up for prayer and to see if God had “anything for me”. The woman of God who was praying for people spoke over my life. She said these words: “You will write books. You can go to the bank on it. Rivers of living water will flow from your belly…”
