He Calls Me Friend!

We laughed and cried and enjoyed rich friendships this past weekend. We were talking about how long our friendships will last. Over 50 years for some. I even laughed and said pinky swear with one of our friends when we were sharing that we’d always be friends.

There are times when for one reason or another friendships wane. New directions, restless hearts, lack of commitment. Sometimes God just moves people out of your way so that you can move on. You may have done the pinky swear, spoke undying allegiance or just knew you’d be friends forever. But you can’t make people stay friends, you can’t push the relationship and you can’t get in the way of God. You have to let people be people.

Your relationships that meant so much to you may have crumbled right before your very eyes. Nothing you did. But first one thing and then another made you realize they weren’t there for the long haul. They weren’t for you as a brother to remain steadfast. Your oath of allegiance to them was not kept on their part. The covenant of loyalty was broken. It could be a friend you thought was closer than a brother or even a spouse. You’re left to pick up the pieces, sort through the mess, keep the good memories and throw out the rest. Your heart is broken, your sight for the future is dimmed and you just don’t know where to turn.

Oh beloved. There is One who will be with you forever. He is your friend who will always stick closer than a brother. He is the Lord of heaven and earth. He has known you since before the foundation of the world. Your destiny has been to know Him and the power of His resurrection and to fellowship with Him forever. No pinky swear needed for the Cross is your sign of eternal relationship. When He went to the cross for you He meant it. When He rose from the Grave He arose with you in mind. When He ascended into heaven He is there with His eye on you, praying always for you. His Holy Spirit is guiding you, giving you intimate, ongoing relationship with the Father and the Son. This friendship is like no other. It is a triple braided cord and it will hold you securely forever. Although others may have lied about you, lied to you, walked away without a word, ran when you were rejected – Jesus will be with you forever. The DNA of the Father runs in both your veins. There is nothing, absolutely nothing you can do to lose His love and friendship – for He is your King and your Savior and the allegiance to you is eternal.

God loves you and He’s for you. Let Him give you seasons of refreshing in His presence and watch as He puts new life into old friendships and new friendships into your life. You are called to be a friend to the friendless and to point the way to new life as you live in the Light of His Glory and Grace!

John 15:15 I no longer call you slaves, because a master doesn’t confide in his slaves. Now you are my friends, since I have told you everything the Father told me.

Proverbs 18:24 …a real friend sticks closer than a brother.

Psalm 48:14 For such is God, Our God forever and ever; He will guide us until death.

Psalm 27:1 The LORD is my light and my salvation– whom shall I fear? The LORD is the stronghold of my life– of whom shall I be afraid?

Psalm 130:7 Israel, put your hope in the LORD, for with the LORD is unfailing love and with him is full redemption

About rebekahbeene

In a Women’s meeting in 1983, I went up for prayer and to see if God had “anything for me”. The woman of God who was praying for people spoke over my life. She said these words: “You will write books. You can go to the bank on it. Rivers of living water will flow from your belly…”
