I woke up in the night to wintry weather pelting our windows. I could not believe it. I had checked the weather forecast earlier in the day and although it was going to be quite cold, they had not mentioned precipitation. When I checked the weather at 2 am, sure enough a small cluster of counties including ours was under a winter weather advisory.
Just as the weather is liable to have drastic changes with less than a moment’s notice, our lives can change as well. We’re not masters of the weather and neither are we masters of our own lives. Those drastic changes that come our way can waylay our faith. We might find ourselves reeling from the change and wondering where God is and why this could happen.
Oh beloved, even though life has drastic changes you weren’t expecting, you can still hold on to your faith and rest in God’s promises. The world around you may suddenly drop away from all you hold dear or where you found your comfort, but God will not drop away. He isn’t surprised by the weather changes and He’s not caught by surprise by the chilly trials you find yourself facing. He may not stop the storm, but He will become your refuge and you will realize more how much God is with you and how surely you can rely on Him. Don’t stand out in the cold and curse the changes. Instead step into the warmth of the Father’s love and relax in all that He is for you. Now is the time to rehearse what you have been taught. Now is the time to open the Word of Faith and remind your heart and soul that the same Spirit who raised Christ from the dead dwells in you. Things change, people change, circumstances change but God never changes. On this you can rely, even when the storms rage and the ice pelts your windows and the news report says things are going awry.
God loves you and He’s for you. Get that down into your spirit and let it settle there. Let the embers of these truths warm your heart and mind and guard you from the icy onslaught in Christ Jesus. Your destiny is not the bad reports of today. Your destiny is Glory! Speak to the things that want to overtake you and freeze your faith. Listen to your Father God tell you the truth and live that truth out. The weather will change again and so will your circumstances. But Your God will never change! Hallelujah! What a Savior!
Numbers 23:19 God is not human, that He should lie, not a human being, that He should change His mind. Does He speak and then not act? Does He promise and not fulfill? NIV
James 1:17 Every good thing given and every perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of lights, with whom there is no variation or shifting shadow.
Hebrews 13:8 Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today and forever.
Hebrews 6:18 So God has given both His promise and His oath. These two things are unchangeable because it is impossible for God to lie. Therefore, we who have fled to Him for refuge can have great confidence as we hold to the hope that lies before us.
Isaiah 25:4 For You have been a defense for the helpless, A defense for the needy in his distress, A refuge from the storm, a shade from the heat; For the breath of the ruthless Is like a rain storm against a wall.
