The expected deluge of rain has arrived. Thankfully it held off for the funeral we attended yesterday. The service was one of the nicest we’ve been to. We knew that he was a unique individual like no other. We laughed as one after another shared our friend’s uniqueness. But we found out things we never knew about our friend who was in motorcycle ministry with us. He loved to ski and was a cyclist as well. He didn’t just attend church, he was active in the body of Christ in the world today. He had lots of pastimes but he always put Christ first. Through a family tragedy years ago he rededicated his life to the Lord and it showed in everything he did. Not just church but life.
As I listened to the speakers and the singers and saw the American flag draped over his casket (he was also a soldier) I noticed something. There were no suitcases packed on the floor. No crates for the things he loved – motorcycles, ski gear, cycles, etc. There wasn’t a single thing waiting to go with him. He was not taking a thing with him even though he loved and enjoyed and had great passion for many things, including his family. No what went with our friend was his faith in Christ. That alone could travel the distance from here to eternity.
Oh beloved, your life is so precious to God. He gave His only begotten Son so that you could have eternal life with Him in heaven. This life of faith that you now live is hidden in Christ. You are another glorious example of all that it means to be a Christian. The blessings, used for His glory and the tragedies, showcasing His loving care are all part of your new life. It’s okay to have things, but don’t let things have you. God’s plans for you far exceed the fretful worries of this life. You may think those things you do as part of your life of faith are for nothing, but they are oh so very treasured by God. Every prayer, every request, every kind word, every gift of forgiveness, every song of thanksgiving and grateful praise is a sweet aroma of faith wafting up to the Lord. He gave His life for the whole world, but He loves you and would have given that life if you were the only one in that whole world. You are unique and like no other and your Kingdom purpose is special just for you, just for Him.
He’s working out all the hurts and problems. He’s blessing you with His eternal blessings in heavenly places. He’s arranged your home going and it will be oh so wonderful. Live for Jesus now, give Him everything and let Him lead, guide and direct you all the days of your life. No story ending reads so well and is so comforting as the story of a life lived for Jesus. He makes all things new and He makes life here worth living for Him always. Rise up this morning and rejoice in who you are in Christ and thank Him for giving you a new life to live for Him!
God loves you and He’s for you. And that’s all that really matters.
Galatians 2:20 I have been crucified with Christ; and it is no longer I who live, but Christ lives in me; and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave Himself up for me.
2 Peter 1:3 By His divine power, God has given us everything we need for living a godly life. We have received all of this by coming to know Him, the one who called us to Himself by means of His marvelous glory and excellence.
Colossians 3:4 And when Christ, who is your life, is revealed to the whole world, you will share in all His glory.
