My husband returned late last night. He decided to come on home instead of waiting until morning. He was ready for home-made coffee and a soft bed. I was ready to have him home. I even bought him his favorite ice cream for a welcome home snack. The absence of this person I count on for security, fellowship and love always reminds me how fleeting life is and how glad I am that he’s mine. Any absence on his part and I’m more than generous with the welcome home. I miss him. I count on him. I love him. And I know him. I know that I can count on him for anything. Not just his handiness, but his ability to know how to handle situations and fix what’s broken and give me sound advice when I’m anxious or trying to figure things out. It’s good to have him home.
You’ve been having a rough time haven’t you? Things are starting to pile up. You’re not sure you’ll make it and you don’t know what to do. Life itself is broken and you can’t fix it. You thought you could count on God, but this is hard stuff. Where is He? Did He leave you? Are you going to have to figure it all out on your own?
Oh beloved, you are not alone! God has not taken a trip to another part of the galaxy. He is with you. And you can count on Him. Your troubles are not yours to deal with by yourself. You don’t have to be strong enough, brave enough, positive enough or keep yourself going. You don’t have to figure it all out, live by your own wits or wait for God to return. What you see as an absence is just God’s timing. You’re wrangling and He’s working. You’re feeling weaker and weaker but God is gathering His strength for your every need. Now’s not the time to fret and worry and condemn yourself to gloom and doom. This is the very time you can simply abide. Abide in Him, wait on Him, watch for Him, love Him and let Him love you. Everything will work out because He promises you that. You are God’s possession and He takes care of His own. Because of Christ, you are a blood bought child of faith. As you abide you will be able to rest in the whirlwind, recall His Word in the chaos and remind yourself of whose you are. You are sheltered, you are protected, you are living in His power. Don’t waste another moment in fear, anxiety or dread. Just know that when God seems far away, He is in fact right here with you, working everything out for your good and His glory.
God loves you and He’s for you. Trust Him, abide in Him, recall what He promises in the Word, and watch for His answer. Your life is a shining example: not that everything goes smoothly or perfectly. But that everything you go through is handled in the abiding presence of the Lord of heaven and earth. Always know that those who know God will be able to rest in His promises all the days of their lives.
I John 4:13 By this we know that we abide in Him and He in us, because He has given us of His Spirit.

Psalm 18:2 The LORD is my rock, my fortress, and my savior; my God is my rock, in whom I find protection. He is my shield, the power that saves me, and my place of safety.
Psalm 27:5 For in the day of trouble He will conceal me in His tabernacle; In the secret place of His tent He will hide me; He will lift me up on a rock.
Ephesians 1:11 Furthermore, because we are united with Christ, we have received an inheritance from God, for He chose us in advance, and He makes everything work out according to His plan.
