This past week-end was another grandchild’s birthday party. That meant that a birthday cake needed to come alive in my kitchen. Usually I clean up as I go. But this Saturday morning as I finally had an idea of how to put it together, a huge mess was made. I mean huge. I wasn’t even sure in the midst of the creating that I would even have a cake that looked like what was wanted. I prayed that God would help me finish the thing I had to do. And I didn’t have time to clean up immediately. The colorful cake made to look like Legos was harder than most I’ve done. The mess was even messier. As I went to clean up after I was finished I noticed there was icing in my hair and stains from the bright reds and dark blues were all over my hands. Yet after all that mess, there was a masterpiece of Lego pieces.
Life can get real messy. Sometimes we can’t believe the mess we’ve made or the mess we’re in. We try to make something beautiful but it just doesn’t come together. We want beauty but we are messed up. Things aren’t going well. We can’t seem to produce the colorful life we want. We just have a jumble of things and we’re not sure whether it’s ever going to work out.
Oh beloved, there is One who is overseeing your creative life. He is watching each move and all that you are trying to make sense of. He knows the missteps and mistakes. He sees the pile of random acts surrounding you and He says don’t worry. He reminds you that He is the Creator of the World. He can surely create something beautiful out of your mess. Even though you find it hard to see the final product, He has already declared your life a masterpiece. You are His. Your stuff is the stuff that He uses to produce beauty and purpose. It will all work out and it will be good. The mess in your hands is the masterpiece in His. He even promises to clean up for you. No other friend will do this for you. You are on your own in the world, but you are never on your own in the life God has given you. Keep asking God for creative opportunities to shine His glory through you. Keep working the life of faith. Keep giving Him the messes.
God loves you and He’s for you. You can trust Him to make something beautiful out of the worst mess in your life because He works it all out for your good and His glory. Trust the Maker of the colors on the palette of life to beautify everything and give you something to boast in Him about as you live in the Light of His glory and grace.
Ephesians 1:11 Furthermore, because we are united with Christ, we have received an inheritance from God, for He chose us in advance, and He makes everything work out according to His plan.
Isaiah 25:1 O LORD, I will honor and praise Your name, for you are my God. You do such wonderful things! You planned them long ago, and now you have accomplished them.
Isaiah 49:4 I replied, But my work seems so useless! I have spent my strength for nothing and to no purpose. Yet I leave it all in the LORD’s hand; I will trust God for my reward.
Ecclesiastes 3:11 Yet God has made everything beautiful for its own time. He has planted eternity in the human heart, but even so, people cannot see the whole scope of God’s work from beginning to end.
Romans 8:28 We are assured and know that, God being a partner in their labor, all things work together and are [fitting into a plan] for good to and for those who love God and are called according to [His] design and purpose.
