Have a Case of the Hiccups?

Proverbs 20:24 The Lord directs our steps, so why try to understand everything along the way?

I guess everyone has had the hiccups at some time. Those brief but distracting and sometimes painful interruptions in normal breathing can be frustrating. One of my friends has been battling a spiritual situation. As I was praying for her I heard God’s assurance: this is just a hiccup. And then I remembered the old saying that every time you have the hiccups as a kid it signifies a growth spurt. There are all kinds of cures spoken about for hiccups.

There are hiccups in life aren’t there? Times when we find ourselves face to face with a problem or battling a spiritual situation. We don’t like it, we get frustrated and we try all manner of things to get them to stop. But hiccups in life can be a wonderful time of growth in the spirit. If we stop and talk to God about these things instead of trying to fix them ourselves we are sure to grow in faith and be rid of this round of hiccups. If the hiccup session continues too long, we may need to seek spiritual help and guidance. God never intends for us to be harmed in those moments of life whether it’s a small problem, a change or a delay that’s caused your hiccup.

Oh beloved, this situation you find yourself in is just a hiccup. It’s temporary, and even though it may be painful, you can trust God to get you past it. The best relief comes as you rejoice in the Lord, rest in His promises, rehearse the truth and live in the peace of God. He has your very best interests at heart. No one, not even the enemy of your soul, can get you off course with the Lord’s plans. No matter who spoke trouble or sorrow into your mind, your heart can keep beating for the Lord. You are neither the sum of your circumstances nor the outcome of your problems. Everything for living a powerful life is found in God’s presence and in His Word. Every relief and every continuation of God’s promises is found IN HIM. You can take a deep breath but you don’t have to hold your breath. God is not through with you even in life’s hiccups. You can live in complete freedom and walk in victory because even hard times don’t last forever.

God loves you and He’s for you, so the hiccups in life can be viewed from your angle of blessedness and hopefulness as you grow into Christlikeness and live in the Light of His glory and grace!

Psalm 46:10 Be still, and know that I am God! I will be honored by every nation. I will be honored throughout the world.

3 John 1:2 Beloved, I pray that in all respects you may prosper and be in good health, just as your soul prospers.

Proverbs 20:24 The LORD directs our steps, so why try to understand everything along the way?

2 Corinthians 4:16 For our present troubles are small and won’t last very long. Yet they produce for us a glory that vastly outweighs them and will last forever!

Philippians 1:6 I am certain that God, who began the good work within you, will continue His work until it is finished on the day when Christ Jesus returns.

About rebekahbeene

In a Women’s meeting in 1983, I went up for prayer and to see if God had “anything for me”. The woman of God who was praying for people spoke over my life. She said these words: “You will write books. You can go to the bank on it. Rivers of living water will flow from your belly…”
