The roses at our friends’ home cover the front and back flower beds. Quite the abundant bloomers, fresh roses are all over the place. There are also spent blooms in various stages of losing their petals and fading away. The faded roses aren’t the prettiest but there they are among the freshly burst blossoms. The colors of the faded roses are in stark contrast to the bright colors of the new. What if all we did was lament the old blossoms? What if we worried and fretted over those blossoms that have seen better days? If there was just one set of blooms on these bushes we’d have one shot at the beauty and it would be over. But because they bloom all season long there is much enjoyment given by their display. Roses change. But there is much enjoyment in the change. The floribunda types, that bloom and bloom and bloom are favorites because even though things change, they still display beauty long after other bushes are spent.

God speaks to my heart. Sometimes good things fall apart so that better things can come together. While we want things to always stay the same, God is a creative force always bringing new growth and fresh anointing to our lives. Sometimes that growth is disguised as a spent rose. Thankfully God gives us seasons of refreshing. He never says quit blooming, but He may prune back, trim the spent areas of our lives and place us in new positioning so that we can continue having fresh anointing and new times of joy in the Lord.

Oh beloved, maybe you are in a season of good things. You like it all to stay just as it is. But God has begun to change things around. It may look like disaster as the trimming begins. You may feel you’ll never be used again. The colorful beauty of the present anointing may seem so attractive that you just want to stay the same and abide in the same spot forever. But God has a plan. Not to destroy you but to burst you forth in newness of life! Although you can’t choose what the Gardener of your life does, you can choose to let Him do it with peace and comfort. You can know that God has your best and His glory in mind. You may not see what’s happening until one day you look and where you are is abundantly blooming in gifts and anointing and callings like you’ve never seen before. Trust Him and watch as He makes all things work together for your good. And praise Him as He gives you fresh seasons and new positions for His glory.

God loves you and He’s for you. That’s why you can trust Him to do His work in you and through you. Don’t lament the former things. Instead rejoice as God is doing a new thing and He has brought you along in the changes! You are His display of glory grace and mercy all the days of your life as you not only bloom where you’re planted, you bloom over and over again through all the seasons of your life in Christ!

Isaiah 43:18-19 Do not call to mind the former things, Or ponder things of the past. For I am about to do something new. See, I have already begun! Do you not see it? I will make a pathway through the wilderness. I will create rivers in the dry wasteland.

Isaiah 42:9 Behold, the former things have come to pass, Now I declare new things; Before they spring forth I proclaim them to you.

I Peter 1:23 For you have been born again, not of perishable seed, but of imperishable, through the living and enduring word of God

Jeremiah 29:11 For I know the plans I have for you,” says the LORD. “They are plans for good and not for disaster, to give you a future and a hope.

About rebekahbeene

In a Women’s meeting in 1983, I went up for prayer and to see if God had “anything for me”. The woman of God who was praying for people spoke over my life. She said these words: “You will write books. You can go to the bank on it. Rivers of living water will flow from your belly…”
