God May Want to Do Surgery

A friend of mine is with her aunt today who is having surgery. It’s one of those surgeries that may require simple extraction or could turn into a more complicated procedure. As the aunt goes under, she will have no idea how she will come out of the anesthesia. It might be a short recovery, it could take several days. She is in the hands of the surgeon. All the preparation and planning her aunt has had is good, but the final outcome is not in her hands. She could have insisted that she only have the minor form of surgery but then the physician would have had to decline. He is the expert. He knows how far to go. He knows what is needed for the best outcome for the patient.

There are times, in the life of a believer, when God deems it necessary to do surgery. We know something’s wrong so we run to the only place we can really find relief. He starts to work on us from the inside out – the heart first. He looks closely and we try to hide problems from Him. We don’t want complicated procedures with God, we just want relief! We say to the Lord, sure You can do a little nip and tuck, but please no drastic measures. He looks at us with love and asks us about other things. Sometimes He decides we need removal of something that has been very close to our heart. It could be a loved one, a ministry, a friendship, a vocation, a direction. We hang on tightly. We try to insist that God only do minor surgery! We say no, don’t take that! He lovingly nods and finally we let Him have His way. We go under the knife of His loving Hand and release our lives to Him. He is the Great Physician and He has the best outcome in mind for us.

Oh beloved, what’s that trouble hurting your heart? What’s the cause for your listlessness and lack of vitality? Are you worn out with trying to do your own pain management? Are you trying to read self-help books and try-this-stuff manuals only to find that you are still hurting and falling farther into the depths of despair? Make an appointment with God. Drop the stuff and clear your schedule and get alone with Him. Talk to Him and hold nothing back. Give Him the true problems, let Him probe your symptoms and give you a real diagnosis. He won’t ever do a thing to you that will not ultimately be best for you. He alone knows what He’s doing. If it’s minor give thanks. If it’s major and He requests that you spend extended time in regeneration and renewal, then do it. Your inner faith will grow and your outer life will blossom as He heals you of all that seeks to bind you down.

God loves you and He’s for you. All He asks is that you let Him do what He needs to do. And trust Him. This is no quack you are dealing with, this is your Abba Father, who knows you better than anyone else and cares for you like no one else could. His plans for you are perfect spiritual health and strong ministry to others as you share how God healed you and set you free!

Psalm 139:23-24 Search me [thoroughly], O God, and know my heart! Try me and know my thoughts! And see if there is any wicked or hurtful way in me, and lead me in the way everlasting. Amplified

About rebekahbeene

In a Women’s meeting in 1983, I went up for prayer and to see if God had “anything for me”. The woman of God who was praying for people spoke over my life. She said these words: “You will write books. You can go to the bank on it. Rivers of living water will flow from your belly…”
