In His Hands

Kids get frustrated learning to use scissors and tape. Our grandson made a flag over the weekend and it turned out great. But it was tedious going because he used colored tissue paper. That stuff tears easily and once you’ve stuck it with tape there is no going back! The end result was good and it’s on display for everyone to see. He pretty much did it all himself, but he asked for help on a couple of things. A couple of times I saw him struggling and I asked him to let me see it. Reluctant at first, he handed it over. As I made easy work of the little wearisome cuttings of the stars, he said Thanks!  He took the stars I had made from the white paper gratefully and taped them on the flag.

We get frustrated with life and tedious things that seem to want to rip and wrinkle and ruin. We want to throw those things away. We want to quit the work. God says, “Can I use that?” Gladly we hand it to Him. To our amazement we watch as, in His hands, it all changes! Sorrow becomes joy; chaos turns into peace; anger turns into forgiveness and so on…

In His hands. He does use everything for His glory and our good. We just have to hand it to Him and let it go. We have to let Him do what only He can do.

Oh beloved, what are you holding this morning? What mess is that you are trying to make sense of? What has hurt you so much that you think it’s all so much trash? He’s whispering lovingly to you this morning, “Can I have that?” He wants to take your mess and help you. He wants to enter into your frustration and trim away the needless and give you back the important part. There’s not one situation you are in that God doesn’t know about. There’s not one mess, not the ones you’ve gotten yourself into or the ones others have done to you that God isn’t aware of. He’s so loving He has let you stay frustrated and worried. But today you are handing it over to Him as He asks if He can take it and use it for His glory.

God loves you and He’s for you. His promises don’t come up short. His hand doesn’t make mistakes. When He says to you All things work together for good, He means it. That’s why you can trust Him to be help in times of need and to make the final picture, like our grandson’s flag, just right and worthy of display.  Give Him your “stuff” and let Him have it to fix it and mold it and fix you and mold you in the process. For you are a shining example of God’s glory and grace!

Romans 8:28 And we know that God causes everything to work together for the good of those who love God and are called according to his purpose for them.

Proverbs 3:5-6 Trust in the LORD with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to him, and He will make your paths straight. NIV

Psalm 54:4 Behold, God is my helper; The Lord is the sustainer of my soul.

Isaiah 41:10 Don’t be afraid, for I am with you. Don’t be discouraged, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you. I will hold you up with My victorious right hand.

About rebekahbeene

In a Women’s meeting in 1983, I went up for prayer and to see if God had “anything for me”. The woman of God who was praying for people spoke over my life. She said these words: “You will write books. You can go to the bank on it. Rivers of living water will flow from your belly…”
