We went on a dinner run last night with a group of biker friends. This group has planned to go to this same restaurant in a nearby town several times. Each time the weather has stopped the trip. Last night the weather was the same – cloudy, lightning and rain. Determination made the group decide to go instead of postpone again. Most everyone was in cars but two valiant guys rode their motorcycles. We headed out with the threat of rain and sure enough, right outside of town we began to encounter a downpour which lasted nearly 30 minutes.
Riding along the lowest area of the route we looked and on both sides of the road the water was threatening to go over the highway. We even encountered highway crews trying to repair culverts that had washed out. It had come a flash flood and we were in it! Finally arriving at our destination, the sun shined and the clouds parted. It all turned out good.
God speaks to my heart. There will always be opportunities disguised as hardships. When He calls His own to travel the road of life He doesn’t wait until the skies are blue and the weather is right. If we wait until everything is favorable or in our favor, we might not go. I can remember starting out thinking things would be great and then finding all sorts of hazards along the way. I’ve felt the flood of disaster threatening to overtake the road I was on. I can remember thinking that I could just go home and live my life and not have to put up with the troubles. But pushing on through is what gives God’s children perseverance and that produces strength of character. Each time I’ve encountered God’s will I’ve also encountered reasons not to move on with Him. It’s a choice I had to make, not knowing whether the weather would improve or what troubles I might have to go through.
Oh beloved, I know. God knows. You thought you were hearing from God but now you’re encountering all sorts of trials. You feel that the road you are on might even wash away. This same Lord Who called you is the One Who goes ahead of you. He is the One Who will see you through. Through every trial, every disaster, every plot of the enemy and every opportunity for you to grow in faith and wisdom. All these things are often disguised as something you don’t want to do. Forget the troubles you see and remember the call of God on your life. There will always be opportunities to turn around and go home, but beloved, this world is not your real home. Trust the Lord who has called you. Trust His timing, His road map, His plans. He knows that even though you are going through a hard spot in your walk with Him that blue skies will come again. You can’t help what happens along the way but you are responsible to let God work greater faith and confidence in you.
God loves you and He’s for you. That’s why you can rejoice now, remember the promise and go forth with Jesus as your Savior. The end will be worth the trip beloved, for you will encounter the completeness of God’s plan in your life and there’s no other place that brings such blessing and joy as living in the center of His will.
James 1:2-4 Dear brothers and sisters, when troubles of any kind come your way, consider it an opportunity for great joy. For you know that when your faith is tested, your endurance has a chance to grow. So let it grow, for when your endurance is fully developed, you will be perfect and complete, needing nothing.
Psalm 42:8 The Lord will command His lovingkindness in the daytime; And His song will be with me in the night, A prayer to the God of my life.
Romans 5:3-5 We can rejoice, too, when we run into problems and trials, for we know that they help us develop endurance. And endurance develops strength of character, and character strengthens our confident hope of salvation. And this hope will not lead to disappointment. For we know how dearly God loves us, because He has given us the Holy Spirit to fill our hearts with his love.
Romans 8:37 No, despite all these things, overwhelming victory is ours through Christ, who loved us.
