Dive In!

It’s summertime and swimming is one of a kid’s favorite pastimes. At the lake on Father’s Day, we watched our five grandchildren take to the water in completely different ways. There were the ones who jumped in whole hog – never worrying about the depth or the darkness of the water. They just jumped into their father’s arms and had a great time. There was the deep diver, a little older and willing to look beneath the surface for hidden treasure.  There was the lounger who went all the way into the water, but just relaxed and stayed still, no swimming, jus floating along. Finally there was the one who just sat at the edge and was content to only put his feet in.

Each one had a great time. But the ones who chose to go further and be more involved were the ones that really experienced the swim.  The deep diver even found another family member’s glasses because he was willing to look beyond the surface.

What does God want to teach me as I look at that whole experience? For each and every day is God’s classroom of faith. He loves the lounger who’s in it for the fun. And He loves the deep diver who is going for more. But regardless of where you are, He wants to move you on.  God speaks to you who are timid about stepping into unfamiliar territory. He holds out His Abba Father arms and says come on! I want to take you where you’ve never been.  To the one who is content to lounge He says there is much to enjoy as you begin to work the muscles of your faith and move around in the Spirit. To the one who wants nothing more than to sit on the shore and look at others He says it’s time to trust Me and step into the blessings I have for you. Circumstances may not look good but I AM the Lord of your circumstances. It’s only in relying completely on Me that you will swim with vigor and not worry about what might be “out there”.

Oh beloved. God wants to teach you. He is your swim coach and your dive instructor! He is always calling you in love to stretch beyond what’s comfortable. Even if you are used to going beyond the shore, He wants you to learn to go there in His Spirit and His way. Familiarity can be a trap, no matter how adept you are at swimming in your own flesh.  It is when you allow God to stretch you out of your comfort zone that you will truly be moving and living and being in Him.  It doesn’t matter what you think might be uncomfortable – remember that staying the same and living a shallow life or diving into troubles in the flesh won’t grow your faith. It’s Spirit led living, being conformed to the Image of Christ and relying on the Holy Spirit’s direction that will make you a Champion of the Faith.

God loves you and He’s for you. That’s why He’s coaching you to move through the rough waves of physical, mental and emotional challenges. Don’t stop swimming just because it’s gotten harder. There’s a reward waiting for you when you stick with it and let Him set the pace, choose the direction and give you His rest. You are destined for Victory as you overcome and learn to dive into God’s will whole hog for the Kingdom and glory of God!

Exodus 14:15 Then the LORD said to Moses, “Why are you crying out to me? Tell the people to get moving!”

Psalm 37:5 Commit everything you do to the LORD. Trust Him, and He will help you.

Ephesians 3:19 May you experience the love of Christ, though it is too great to understand fully. Then you will be made complete with all the fullness of life and power that comes from God.

2 Timothy 1:7 For the Spirit God gave us does not make us timid, but gives us power, love and self-discipline. NIV

About rebekahbeene

In a Women’s meeting in 1983, I went up for prayer and to see if God had “anything for me”. The woman of God who was praying for people spoke over my life. She said these words: “You will write books. You can go to the bank on it. Rivers of living water will flow from your belly…”
