We made a little tour today. While the guys were at the gun show we visited the huge Christian book store nearby. In the city things are changing all the time including the roads. Our cousin, who has lived here many years, drove down a highway which should have brought us straight to our destination.
She had been there scarcely two weeks before and yet we met with a dead end.
They are building a new super highway through the area and had completely closed that street. We found ourselves staring at a barricade where the road had been completely removed. She had to recalculate how we were going to get to our intended target. We did finally make it.
We could have turned around and gone home. We could have picked another destination. But we stayed on the mark for where we were headed. In the end we arrived, made our purchases, had a great time and returned home.
Life is a lot like that trip we made. Sometimes we know where we are going and yet we meet a barricade ahead. Right where we’ve always gone we are no longer able to get there. We get frustrated, we feel abandoned, we get confused and irritated. We could stop right there as and go home. Defeated, we could refuse any different direction we find ourselves having to make. But God is bigger than our barriers whether they are self-made or made by someone else. We have clear direction as long as we confer with the Lord, who is always guiding us – around the barriers, through the rough territory and into new ground.
Oh beloved, God wants you to know that He understands the frustration you are in right this moment. You know how good it was and yet you now see how torn up it all is. You wanted to keep going, but there was no way. You stopped and prayed and discussed the situation with yourself, with friends and with God. God spoke to your heart and said “Follow Me”. If you will trust God He will make sense out of the senseless maze ahead of you. New construction means new ground for your good and for His Kingdom’s glory. It doesn’t really matter if you have to change your pace, your direction or your travel plans, for your destination is firmly settled in heaven.
Don’t worry one more moment about what you can’t fix. Rejoice in God. Sing Hallelujah and thank the Lord that you are still traveling. Even totally unknown territory is fantastic as long as you trust Him. Tears of mourning will turn to tears of joy as you realize His best for you is always available. Your work for the Lord, though delays and changes may appear, is a forever appointment. You cannot abide in grief and abide in His travel plans. Rest in His promises and give the outcome to Him. One day you will see that the dead end you found yourself on was God appointed to get you on the better way.
God loves you and He’s for you and that’s all that matters as you follow Him with all of your heart for all of your life.
